My new boss is a controlling narcissist and everyone has tried to transfer out. None of us have been able to. She is insecure and sabotages our careers.
Speaking from experience, if you don’t have a good relationship with your manager or even if your manager for whatever reason doesn’t care for you (very common in the call center), you won’t go very far in your career here, especially if trying to get out of the call center.
Years back, I applied for a backoffice role, did 2 interviews, when the hiring manager went back to my manager to let her know they’ll be selecting me, she buried me! Only reason I found that out was because the hiring manager told me when she called to say she had to go with another candidate.
As long as you’re not on a verbal warning, apply! Only time your manager will find out is if you get an interview. The old system we had for internal postings, they use to send an email to the manager once you hit submit. That changed at the end of 2021.
Depending on your relationship with your manager, I’d give them a heads up.
I recommend applying externally instead
No. As long as you have been in your current role for a year and not on an arbitrary PIP, click away. Once your status moves from review to interview, your boss with get notified. Advice is to talk to them first. Also as yourself if you are wanting the next role, ir just wanting to escape your current role.
