Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Question, will we have a Smart Lay-off?

Over the decades of watching these little dance parties, I have come to the conclusion that about 20% of the RIFs are done in a thoughtful way. The remaining 80% have been real head scratchers that could only come from HR mandates. The number of times we have seen highly skilled useful employees sacked, while absolute dolts and cancers are left behind to keep the plant running is mind boggling. Not to mention in 6 to 12 months you can expect hiring binges where any warm body will suffice. Hope for the best prepare for…. most likely something better! Go Vikes

Yes. There will be many very qualified, smart, experienced, hard working contributors who will be cut. That’s Seagate’s exact definition of a smart layoff.

Well. Last time my director level people indicated that they were not asked and were able to give zero input on who to keep. So that answers that.
