Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

YOU ARE NEVER SAFE, ANYONE CAN BE CUT!!

Although I loved working for Chevron, I was part of the massive industry layoff in 2016. That is when I realized gigantic corporations literally don't give a sh-t about anyone. Unless you are part of the good ol' boy network, nepotism hire, etc... you are gone!!! 2yrs or 30yrs with the company..
Doesn't matter. Chevron is no different. Nature of the beast. I'm glad to be gone. Almost 10yrs later, and the cycle starts over and over and over....

@mj+1jp4aq5t9 The best career advice that I learned is don’t ever attach yourself and identity to a place, a company, an organization or a project. Only attach yourself to your mission in life. Take care of YOUrself.

Look at the mess DP's made. He let go of all those people in Wells, then in OE. But his daughter? She’s still safe, tucked away at Chevron. She couldn’t make it in Wells, so they moved her to HR—and she didn’t last there either—but still, she’s employed. It’s like nothing matters if you’re connected.

And then there’s me. Thirty-four years in drilling and wells. Always a top performer, consistently hitting 2+ ratings. Yet DP dismissed me without a second thought. Just hired some young woman to take my place, someone who probably doesn’t have half the experience. I gave my blood, my sweat, my life to this company, and he tossed me aside like I was nothing.

I’ll never forgive him for how he treated me. The way he made me feel like I was disposable, after all I had done. Sure, I was compensated well—Angola, Nigeria, and that brief stint in Kazakhstan. But money doesn’t erase the disrespect. It doesn’t erase the sting of being cast aside after giving everything.

I still remember the day I got let go. DP stood there, all self-righteous, talking about how he’d promoted more women than any other executive, how he’d fired more top-performing white males than anyone else. Like that was something to be proud of. If you ask me, that’s going to be his legacy—destroying the careers of those who worked their as--s off while building his little empire.

I still have friends who work for CVX clowns! It's not surprising 10 years later good people will let go. THE POINT is...you are and will always be a number. But your ignorance in your response says it all. Trust me, I'm doing just fine. But this site actually shared info on what was actually happening then. Some of you are clowns wondering why it's happening to you. It's not... wake the fu-k up! Nature of the beast, you are not special, get over yourselves.

Sounds like sour grapes, wishing you were still here. I can see why you did not make it.

@bd Sure have and have a great part-time gig cruising into retirement whenever I want to, I have plenty to retire on already. Love reading and laughing at you guys without a clue though, did you whiny babies think you were special and are the only ones allowed to post here? There are many more of us reading and laughing hysterically at the new guard, in case you didn't know. It's quite entertaining. Please keep it up.
