Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

RIP WFC - 10/26/2022

It is awfully quiet out there. LOBs not allowed to expand their teams in 2023, heavy scrutiny on calibrations this week, managers awaiting financial allocations in November with all the speculation of a tight budget season, and employees reluctant to leave or move jobs due to the 401K match and bonus coming up. I expect 2023 to see heavier attrition than 2022.

How long are we going to sit around with short-term patches to broken processes, procedures, and systems. This has gone on long enough. I just see empire building taking shape with pain to the employee. The millions the execs make is not enough, they want to be heroes of the community and forcing virtue signaling down our throats via multiple channels like pre-planned Q&A’s and and stale Teamworks articles like “Around the curry pot.” How profane!

There have been some bad leadership hires in the past two years and we still some polarizing entrenched leaders who will not leave. We need to look at strategy fast and force change NOW. I do not see the current playbook working.

All I will say is Bei Ling is the first Asian face I have seen in leadership.

Diversity is diversity in all things. Disabled, all races, orientations, etc. Unfortunately, it only seems to go one way here because a certain CEO was called out. To pretend otherwise is to be blind as a bat.

If calling out racism is itself racist, I'm not entirely sure how a society expects to ever advance beyond it. Haven't seen anyone characterize the issue as 'no big deal' in a while either. Interesting take.

Regardless of whether or not the net impact of the DE&I stuff on the bank’s performance is positive or negative, the magnitude of said net impact is almost certainly minuscule. Anyone even bothering to mention it among a list of problems at the bank that actually do have a significant impact is tipping their hand as a racist though. Just as anyone who would think DE&I alone would be enough to save it (if there actually is anybody who thinks that) would be a Pollyanna.

Don't care what the execs plan is. If it includes RTO they can F off.

In summary - (1) WF is a shitshow. (2) Leadership has no clue. (3) All of tech will move to India while that government support Russia. (4) Agile transformation is a joke and will not save the company. (5) If you are junior to mid-career and stay then it's all on you. Peace Out.

puts on clown nose

The customers may have been shielded from some of this buffoonery in the past, but processes are failing, things are out of control - it is evident how poorly leadership has performed and planned. This is a circus.

As soon as bonuses are paid, the remaining talent will be gone - the dysfunction is apparent across all lines.

Americans are tired of being called racist and are not putting up with it anymore. Corporations including WFB are indeed virtue signaling as the OP said. We see it taking shape across the published articles on Teamworks. How long do they need to freeze the article on call center staff being “welcome” back to the office. They are sticking their ideologies and failed strategies in our face. This isn’t about politics or skin color but about leadership having a responsibility to their employees because their decisions impact our livelihood. As the OP said, with everything being quiet I highly doubt we are going to experience calm waters anytime soon. In 2023, we all are going to feel the impact of this boards decisions. Their excuse will be the economy.

My advice, keep your head down. If you’re still collecting that biweekly paycheck and annual bonus, then you’re doing pretty good. I think all new hires need to understand that the position they originally applied for will not be their last position. You could start your job as an operations specialist, then two years from now, you could be the Director of coffee making. Regardless, if you just join the company to have a paycheck, then this might Habitat might work out fine. Constant change helps deal with monotony. If you join this company in an executive position, then it’s just a stepping stone as you prepare for your next destination.
No one, absolutely no one should take this companiy seriously. It’s just a money machine.

You raised some good issues but then kind of lost it with the "down our throats" stuff. Encouraging basic human decency is not what's going to bring us down.

With all the new executive hires and leadership, they are merely just floundering. Clients are getting tired of all the frequent changes. Don’t ask me how many SMEs have been repurposed to other groups just so those groups can start over fresh when new leadership is hired. For example, the newly named A&D team had nothing but infighting amongst their own leadership. The old leadership has since left the company, and the new leadership decided to Reinvent the wheel. Hence, we’re just pawns…
