They drop a bo-b like this and now we're supposed to wait and see? How is that fair to us? This will cause so many sleepless nights for no good reason. If you decide to lay people off then tell them then and there. Don't do this vague thing and refuse to add any details. That adds insult to injury.

Here is what you do. Update your linked in and resume, then go to work everyday like nothing is going wrong. If they rif you then take the severance package and go fond another job. If they don't rif you then wait another 6 months for the next round. Wash rinse and repeat until you realize that the platter hdd is a dead technology and STX is a dead company.
I don't know. This seems better than the surprise phone call I got on 6/1/2020 out of the blue with zero awareness of what was happening or why. The emotional shock from that is something I can't quite describe but I wasn't in a good place. Closest thing that comes to mind is getting punched as hard as possible in the gut and dropped overboard into the ocean. Get yourself mentally prepared. You are going to have to be strong for your family. Now is a good time to rediscover God and ask for help and guidance. Learning humility will be a gift to you.

manger probably does not know yet. Many of this companies' layoffs have been done from levels above the direct manager. Crazy way to do it I don't think the best talent gets retained this way. Too bad the guy at the top believes an engineer is an engineer regardless of their personal growth and education history or origin.
