There are posts that lament hiring family/friends. Why the frown if they are talented, hardworking, and reliable.
It’s a win-win for Intel and the employees.

This question will not arise if company is doing well. The moment things go south, scapegoating begins. Race, religion, nationality, nepotism,etc…. Are in play. God’s man is in charge now. Relax. All will be well in time.
@ qrp, people don’t have to hire their own family directly. How about A hire B’s wife, B hire C’s brother in law, then C hire A’s sister?
If Intel does has a policy against nepotism, how come it is so rampant and it takes no corrective measures.
Perhaps, this will be good time to cleanup the mess. But it has to be a lot than 20% of layoffs, IMO.
It is a conflict of interest if you hire your family or friends .. this is not allowed per intel policy .. if they get hired by other managers without you impacting the process then it is ok..
Intel is a public company. If u run your own private business you can.
As long as hiring is based on merit and performance reviews are fair irrespective of their relationship/acquaintances, it should be ok. After all strangers working together after a while do become close friends, and as such there could be biases there as well.
Are you really that d-mb ? If you were the hiring manager are you saying that you would have zero bias when deciding between your own wife and a random candidate ? What about during perf reviews when deciding who gets more stock, bonus, and merit increases ? What about during layoffs when someone has to go ? I have an idea. If you're being sued, and your case is being decided by a judge, how about you get judge who is spouse of the person suing you ? By your logic you would have zero issues with this.
