Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Don't leave your job over something that doesn't exist

If layoffs are your main motivator to leave, I’m sorry to say, but you won’t be able to escape them wherever you go. Everybody is cutting people these days. If other factors are pushing you out, then by all means, run and don’t look back. I just feel bad for people who keep saying they want to find something else where they’ll have job security, and all I can do is shake my head. Job security just doesn’t exist anymore, no matter where you go.

I worked at Fidelity through 5 layoffs. Numerous others at other firms. It's just a regular part of corporate America unfortunately

Always have an emergency fund and build up to the point you can cover a year of expenses and you'll never feel stressed.

What su-ks is low performers in this company are promoted time and time again while the best performing individuals keep slogging their a$$ and are always reassigned by their managers to keep cleaning up the mess of some other low performing individuals in other squads.

The best performing individuals in a team / squad rarely get the recognition, incentives they FREAKING DESERVE.

My spouse worked in various roles at one of the large telecommunications companies from the early 80s until retirement in 2018. Layoffs were ALWAYS a thing. In my 35 years at Fido, also in different roles and organizations, I saw many rounds of layoffs. Job security has never existed. Do the best you can, don't live beyond your means, and save as much as you can.

Fidelity isn’t worth the stress. I wouldn’t be leaving because I want job security, I would be leaving a company that promotes a lack of integrity and cheating to get ahead.

Easier said than done.

For some individuals, the stress, anxiety of uncertainty is unbearable.

It has adverse effects on mental as well as physical health.

Yes, job security does not exist anywhere these days but that is not an excuse to treat your employees the way fidelity is treating now.
