The L3 org chart came out, and it is yet another totally braindead decision by Chevron.
IT is cutting cost, offshoring jobs. Meanwhile, all companies that are doing AI are using high cost engineers and scientists. There are 2 big flaws with the design.
No AI work is being done in ENGINE. LC is delusional in thinking he can hire talent there that would create anything the any real business people will use. He’s not learning from Exxon and Shell. And he certainly didn’t even know wtf was going on in his own shop at GM.
Why do we have a Digital Core Program Manager and a Digital Core IT Program Manager?
AI in ENGINE is just marketing.
We are not realistically doing AI out of ENGINE. That’s all done in the US once you see the org charts come out
There are a lot more than 2 flaws in the design. Principal among them the idea that we’re going to have AI driven out of ENGINE by low cost Indian engineers. It will not happen. The best ones are already abroad in the US. The next best ones work for big tech names in India. The next best ones won’t work a shift that requires US hours. Nobody in tech or AI wants to work for oil and gas. Chevron won’t pay what other companies offer because this is supposed to be our low cost office. If by some miracle we do find someone competent, as soon as they’re trained they’ll leverage their experience to jump to a tech company or someone else paying 2% more for a got skillset.
It’s the stupidest idea I’ve ever heard at Chevron, and that’s no small accomplishment.
Man I’m tired of hearing about AI at chevron. If it’s all copilot related or chat agent, hard pass.
Those IT L3s are just more PSG 25-27 who don’t know what they’re doing. How many IT people do you think actually knows platform engineering lmao
