Thread regarding Appian layoffs

EMEA decline

As a member of the EMEA team, I am deeply concerned about the region's alarming decline. It's clear that our current leadership's self-interested approach is not only failing to address the issues, but also exacerbating them. We urgently need a new direction and a leader who will put the team's and the organization's interests above their own. The question on everyone's mind is: who among us will take a stand, challenge the existing power dynamics, and drive the necessary changes to get EMEA back on track? We can't afford to wait any longer - the future of our region is at stake, and it's up to us to take ownership of its turnaround.

The decline continues - they promise the work and deliver f'ck all. Their certification programs are a joke and many companies that bought into Appian are actively looking away from them now (and many have already left!) due to high licensing costs and the relentless annual price rises for said licensing. As someone that has worked very closely with Appian for over 9 years through a company that was "partnered" with them, they shafted us so many times, I lost count. Matt Calkins has a lot to answer for and he's someone that preaches best practice but does the complete opposite. An utter bellend. I have many friends that have worked (and continue to work) for Appian and all without exception say things have got progressively worse over the past 5 years. The term "Emperors New Clothes" comes to mind every time I think about this. My advice - start updating your CVs because you ain't seen nothing yet when it comes to "restructures" - aka: lay-offs.

In the interest of anyone looking at Appian - they've been on the decline for an over 5 years. You only have to look at their ridiculous licensing costs to see that. Every company that I dealt with over the past ten years that had Appian, eventually moved on to something (anything!) else. The PS devision has been decimated over the past 5 years with multiple lay-offs/redundancies and change of leadership roles. The cpm nay I worked for had an "partner" agreement and Appian promised the world - but delivered less than zero. An absolute sh:show of a company.

Great professionals from all departments not just CS keep leaving, with more to come. Appian leadership better do a cleanup while they are at it, it seems nobody wants to work for the CS Mafia.

Without RW this place would be Iberian Italian. what an absolute sh-tshow

So, someone went and removed that comment about our CRO on the hunt for a new Sales SVP EMEA, huh?

And @c4z, are you hinting that LA played favorites and promoted AdC to Director, all while pulling a fast one on everyone else about how careers here are supposed to unfold? Spill the tea!

@c04 unlikely, even if a SVP joins he will stay a Sales suit. We don’t want him back, he did enough damage in CS, like his assistant LA - please no more!

@be4 Once again, we see the influence of the CS Mafia, who talk a big game about teamwork, cross-functional, and cross-departmental collaboration, values they themselves failed to uphold.
Their actions were ultimately self-serving, leading to the departure of many talented professionals who saw through this behavior. In fact, this behavior not only created more division between the regions but also fostered an environment of mistrust and competition, further hindering overall organizational cohesion and effectiveness.
Promotions were often awarded based on personal connections rather than merit, performance, and long-term organizational value.
The CS Mafia styled themselves as leaders, but when it came time to actually lead, they were notably absent.

@as0 Leadership not being present, culture going downhill.

CS used to have leadership deeply involved in the day to day, fostering talent, checking on people. Since a couple of figures left and a few others were appointed, leadership is nowhere to be seen.

They are more interested in telling people what they want to hear (at some point they realise and they leave anyway), getting into beefs with Sales for poaching a couple of consultants (which would leave if they did not have the chance to move sideways), and not allowing people to grow in the direction they want to grow due to internal politics - allowing them to move to different countries, getting them the title that would match the work they are already doing, the list goes on.

More rumours of a cull coming in EMEA due to the lack of performance. SCs are the best source of information.

Unfortunately EMEA is run by the CS mafia, namely AM and RW. They are only in it for themselves and nothing else. Ironically that’s what Matt wants so they are well aligned. It’s a shame that they will continue to let down customers and employees but this will continue.

Start looking elsewhere, Appian is no longer what it used to be.
The new sales guy is just a corporate suit prioritizing his own advancement, anytime he sees an opportunity to improve his own situation he will do it and abandon his team in a heartbeat.

At this point, it's evident that our leader's priorities are misaligned with the team's interests, and we shouldn't anticipate any meaningful contributions from their end. Our pretentious leader was in it for himself all along, I would not expect any changes now. Instead, it's up to the remaining team members to drive positive change and improvement, as we are the ones truly invested in the organisation's success.

This issue is not new. Has been happening for the last 4 years at least in Customer Success. It's only more obvious now in other departments.
