Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Need some tips and tricks to focus.

I’m located in San Ramon and I’ve been with Chevron for 10+ years my challenge is, we’re all professionals, we’re still paid to do a job even though this ROM has been handled ludicrously, but I’m really having hard time focusing and getting my work done on a timely manner. I’ve always been a 2+/1 or EE in my reviews, and I want to leave on a very high note, but I just can get into gear. My POs threats go in one ear and out the other and I need any tips and tricks to get me back on track; books, videos you’ve seen, strategies you’ve used to realign and et cetera. I feel if I go out like this, then all the 1/2+ and EE didn’t mean anything if I crash and burn like this.

Stressing won’t change anything. Take small steps every day to find a new job

What did telling us about your glorious grades have to do with this? Self-actualize, realize we're all in this together, helping a teammate helps oneself, and stay off of sites such as these.

None of us can focus. Our team has definitely been distracted. They know it but their job is to push forward- at least that’s the narrative. Figure out your path forward and a backup and focus on that. It’s easier to compartmentalize if you have that worked out.

The harsh reality is that, if you leave the company, you will quickly be forgotten. That is simply a reflection of the turnover and churn the company will experience over the next few years. It’s entirely possible that your current supervisor won’t be at the company in a year’s time either.

I’ve left companies in the past as a recognised “high performer”, and when I’ve been back a couple of years later to see a coworker or two who I kept in touch with, nobody else knew who I was those. Eventually, those coworkers I did know left too.

It’s also entirely possible that you won’t have a mid-year performance review, so your last review may be the last with the company. As other posters have said, other companies are unlikely to care about your performance ratings. I’ve never looked at performance ratings for external applicants during the hiring process.

My advice echoes that of others: do what you need to do, but now is the time to focus on yourself and your career, not the needs of the company. Not engaging in gossip or speculation is hard, especially in the absence of information, but worthwhile (and I should take my own advice).

Look after yourself, and be kind to yourself too. You’ve put in the effort, and it’s unlikely a temporary lapse will sully your reputation.

Right now a decade with Chevron is a positive in securing a position in another company/ industry. Now imagine what 15 years at an Enron would look like on a resumé.
While interviewing you can now confidently say you are a top performer with X successes, in five year it may not be the case.
You are asking about tips: find something that interests you such as a programming language or professional qualification that makes you feel you are doing something positive for yourself in the long run.

I think the best thing for anyone is to try to stay off this site and just make sure you're getting enough sleep. Try not to talk about speculations or rumors with anyone. Just try to avoid thinking too hard about this re-org and try to exert your efforts towards what your plan B is.

First time? All the “grades” you got in the past mean nothing going forward to any other company! It doesn’t matter how you leave at this point as long as you make sure to get severance.
