Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Competitive edge

The best thing that could happen for the company is to get rid of the dinosaurs in management who are out of touch with how the industry works now.

I don't know. You see some of the young blood they've been promoting, they stink.

Sadly no manger changes or firings till Ryan Lance is removed and they bring is someone else besides those below him. There are lots of people that need to be fired for the MRO acquisition and who is over seeing the process. 50% of our IT employees and contractors/consultants are incompetent.

Competitive edge at ConocoPhillips is an oxymoron. No one has ever viewed COP as having the competive edge. At most, they are and have been a poor performing bystander and in many places incompetant. In Alaska, independents discovered major fields under the nose of COP for decades, and in the GOM they have never been a highliner or successful. Even in acquistions, the market panned the MRO purchase.
COP, a failure in all ways.

I would also say that there are dinosaurs at this company who are 'untouchable' because they know a few specific things, but very good. The rest of the time they are blockers or protectionists who hold on to that knowledge and use it as a shield. In my BU, I see a lot of those people. I think it is more common in static, 'run-mode' BU that doesn't require much innovation to succeed. That is the type of atmosphere that mediocracy thrives in .
