Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

So when are these layoffs starting ?

Almost November now and I am wondering if layoffs will start after Thanksgiving or after the Christmas holidays . Just want to know if any of my holidays will be ruined or if 2023 is when I should start looking elsewhere after I collect a severance .

@mgl+1jni3OKU “they don't want a bunch of anrgy, soon to be laid off employees sabotaging things.”

True. They already have the problem of incompetent managers accidentally sabotaging things.

@mgl+1jni3OKU, Correct. When I was laid off in 2015, they said I did not need to come in for the next two months. They also had a warning in the letter that said if you violate any of their rules the severance package will not be granted. Scare tactic. Get all y our belongings now. They will have security guard watch your every step later.

Every time there's a layoff, I wish that all of Intel HR gets whacked.

If they want everybody notified by the all hands meeting, they will probably start with night shift tonight, then day shift tomorrow, then night shift Weds night.

If you are given a WARN notification of layoff, I would imagine that the company would just say, "Don't bother coming in for the next two months, but you will get paid." This is usually done, because they don't want a bunch of anrgy, soon to be laid off employees sabotaging things.

I agree that the company wants those affected to be off the books by the 1st of the year. If this is the case, the WARN Act requires that employees are given at least a 60 day notification of a layoff, so Nov 1st at latest, but I think sooner.

Notifications will be done first week of Nov.

I would expect the company to want affected employees to be "off the books" by the end of the year, and let's face it, sticking around until Dec 31 so you can get the next QBP/APB isn't going to matter all that much.

A few people remember the good ol' days when Intel would automatically give employees 4 months of "redeployment" time to find another job within or outside of the company. The 4 months was cut to 2 months of redeployment plus 2 months severance after the dot-com bubble burst and has been further reduced over the years depending on how desperate HR is to get rid of people. The "thousand manager layoff" of 2008 and the "SSL4 layoff" of 2015 were very swift.

IDK, but my guess is that they will start Weds on night shift. My rational is that I think most affected employees will have been notified before the all company meeting happens on Thursday. I believe they could make an internal announcement of a layoff before earnings are announced. (just no external announcements) Buckle up!
