Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys!

Safety is no longer number one…

Cutting cost is number one….

We are soon going to putting the safety of our refineries and LNG plans personnel with inexperienced offshored ENGINE personnel. It’s going to result in a number of Workforce H&S, Public H&S, Environmental, Asset and Reputation related incidents…..

Watch CXX shares plummet….

Who will be to blame?

Stock market don't give a cr-p about regular safety issues. It would take a Macondo type incident to affect the stock price.

Safety should've never been Number 1 in the first place... 3rd at best. Ya don't want to take a chance of getting hurt? Go find another industry.

In an efficient global market, if remote workers in low cost geographies were as effective as local workers in high cost geographies, then we would see labour costs achieve equilibrium. That we see such a high disparity in costs between geographies either indicates that markets aren’t as efficient as they ought to be, or the quality of labour isn’t comparable. In some cases this might not be an issue, and in others it will be.

'I’ve heard the Indian hires went to “the Harvard of India” and are smarter than each of us in every way.'

Hmm, amount of new math or science 0.
Number of new companies created in India 0.
By “the Harvard of India” they must mean the bureaucrats there are connected to money and power in India and have 0 integrity.

People from other countries go to Oxford, they certainly in no way go to “the Harvard of India”.

Chevron has the best safety program that I worked with. Despite this Chevron Richmond had a major accident in 2012 (PS. If you have a leak on something that is operating above its flash point, you need to shut it down immediately). I think Chevron wound up paying the government $150MM for refinery incidents. I also many, many near-misses where Chevron got lucky (not the best Engineering Contractors).

This was with American refinery workers

I don't think the issue is education, but experience. Folks sitting in India will have almost no practical experience. I am glad I am retired and gone. Anyone remember Tosco?
