Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

I’m stressed out of my mind

I wouldn’t feel this way if the job market weren’t as horrible as it is. If there were a decent chance of landing another job, I wouldn’t feel so cornered and anxious. I hope to keep the job, but I’m fully aware that the likelihood of losing it is very high. The reorg being a prolonged affair, and none of us knowing if or when the axe will fall in the months to come, really doesn’t help.

I sure wish I was capable of getting a DJT golden age job but I don't know English or how to spell and have been doing nothing for a paycheck at CVX for so long, I'm not sure I remember how to work, lmao!

Don't worry DTJ said he would fix everything on day 1. Were in the golden age of America remember, there should be lots of high-paying jobs for everyone.

Done this dance too many times and it feels just as bad each time. I saw the writing on the wall in the last round and have been working towards my exit plan since, instead of investing time and energy into this place like I did for 2/3 of my career. If you survive this round, I'd highly recommend planning your eventual exit, because as a early career professional who actually wants to make a difference this place will wear you down.

Save your money now , cut out subscriptions and luxuries , and you’ll be good for a few months to look for a job. Get unemployment. You’ll survive and stressing won’t change the outcome. It’s way out of your control, so we just go with the flow. Look at other industries as well during the job hunt

I am sorry you have to go through this. Unfortunately, the anxiety will lasts till you are sure you have a job. This means there's still a few months to go.

I would encourage you to sit down and focus what you can control. Example, deliver valuable results and be visible. It does not guarantee a job, but it's what you can control and keeps your mind focused on something else.

At the same time, have a worse case plan these few months. Saving up, boosting your resume, connecting to people who may help you find another job, finding a temporary income source, reducing costs, etc.

Stay with people who helped you feel better and away from people and sites that makes you feel worse.

There's EAP available also.

Again, I am so sorry you felt so stressed.

(I am just someone who has been through a few of these and learned to cope better. Sharing how I managed it.)

Was sold something different when joining IT out of university. Pay was good, benefits good. But it's a scary time to be in this job market as a new engineer

They are talking about making decisions faster and the reorg has been in process for 6+ months and will take the remainder of the year.... :)

If you are flexible in where you want to live, you should be able to land a position. The pay and benefits may not be the same, but you will have an income to support your expenses. Hang in there in the new job until you can plan your next move to a better job. Good luck.

So many meetings for NOTHING.
This is excruciating.
They spent MONTHS to find out how to layoff people?
No wonder CVX is where it is....
