If you work in a design/mechanical group that focuses exclusively on writing EWOs, latest rumors circulating is that these jobs will be heavily impacted by the new Engine group. We were told engine wouldn't impact positions but we were also told this would be different from renewal/no PDC. Refinery DEs in particular should start updating the resume... said with no love knowing how poor quality IMPACT scope/planning is about to become the new norm.

Anyone think plant support process engineers are safe? These guys already seem so overworked?
Take it from someone at exxon, if your job can be done remotely it will be done in India.
Just wait until they start importing these scabs on H1Bs to do your job in the US for half your pay.
Get ready.
Design engineering is going to India. Cheaper labor, computer apps will do most of the work, fits right into MW's vision of cookie-cutter work rather than artisan design. MW doesn't want the Mona Lisa or Sistine Chapel, he's perfectly happy with knock-offs. I couldn't think of a bigger red flag than that for anybody in that field.
Whoever told you designs engineering positions would not be impacted must hate you. That was the first thing we were told when news initially broke last year.
This is really scary. You really want someone with lots of field experience and lots of common sense doing EWO's and reviewing EWOs. Its OK to ask less experienced people to start EWO's as long as you hold their hand. Asking folks in India to do these is just going to double the work load. Even worse, when field errors come in and you need to get another round of signoffs on Work Packages.
The design job is literally on the chevron India career website. That’s a sure sign.
At this rate if you are offices out of downtown Houston, is there ANYONE that they wouldn’t send to India? They could rent two floors in a bldg for all the execs then move the whole damn company to India.
