overpaid hacks? would a key principal designer that has less projects than an associate designer qualify as overpaid? would being late on every project make him a hack? what if he was demoted twice, other than safe and protected, what does that make him?

Struck a chord did we? You run out of ideas over there at the good old Ruth handler center for has been designers.
Don't worry I'm sure you can bring back fairytopia Barbie and pretend it's something new. Coz that's all you can do over there. Oh yeah and copy other people's ideas. Don't think you're fooling anyone. You're all a bunch of preening overpaid hacks.

You have way too much to say and obviously not enough to do if this is how you spend your weekend.

when someone at Barbie said hey how about we shrink all our regular cr@p down to a mini scale and put every doll on a manhole cover and recreate our entire classic line these fools were just high fiving each other in the conference room thinking they were smart AF. the product is such hot garbage everything looks like a piece of chewing gum and a pale imitation of all the other mini or micro brands out there. the reason that creativity is terminal at Mattel is because it's the same creative leadership that just rehashes the same old things they know over and over. just waiting for them to bring out shrinky dinks back and fashion plates again. Hey how about color change hair?

if you have been here for 20 years or more and you're trying not to get noticed good luck. they're definitely weighing your fate on whether its cheaper to let you go or pay you out to go. there's no place you can hide, are you kidding? each department has to submit potential candidates to cut. again these discussions happen way above your direct supervisors. so don't look to them for clues. in actuality they could be the ones to go. it may be cheaper for the peons to report direct to vps and remove middle managers LOL. especially the ones that do nothing and you all know who those are. they talk and talk but they really cant do. put a hat on that.

That’s the way it is, it’s a large company and because of that there will always be those who remain because they are being protected regardless whether they are competent or not. We all form relationships in a company and as a result this disfunction exists because its human nature to protect your friends. Fortunately there are those that do the right thing and understand where to draw the line when working at a company, even though no matter how you look at it letting people go is an extremely difficult situation. I wish it were different but it’s reality and hopefully there are enough of us out there with a conscience.

it's not about your performance or salary. it's about who can and will protect you. unfortunately, we've all seen good producers go because they're not a VP's friend. more times than not, we've seen incompetent people not only stay, but get promoted, because they know how to weasel their way up. yet, they bring nothing to the table. in fact, they're a hinderance.

One more week to the culling? Last I heard is that even your immediate supervisor does not have knowledge about who's going. Maybe just VPs and HR. VPs don't even have a choice.
So if they can't look you in the eye for any period of time you might have a clue. Some VPs will sit this out by taking time off that week FYI.

I love the guy who asks for ethics. does he really believe there is ethics in business? Sure it's right up there with the honest politicians. I hear Elon musk will be giving away money soon too. dork

Bigger the company the more processes required to keep order and keep things organized. Cost of this is efficiency, speed and flexibility. yeah you gain breadth and greater tonnage but eventually at the cost of innovation. It's funny how the organization keeps asking us for innovation on one hand and efficiency in the other when they're on opposing sides of the proverbial spectrum.

in the good years the company will stock itself more gears and cogs like yourselves to help things run faster and smoother. more cogs and gears the faster and smoother it runs like a car in higher gears. more cogs more redundancies and maybe add some safety features even. when things need to get rough and it needs to run lean it needs to ditch some gears and some cogs. it won't run as smooth or as fast but it'll run. just in a lower gear at a higher rpm probably wearing out the gears and cogs it has. so it puts in some additives to let it get by.

you're a cog and if you're still here enjoy your additives and try not to burn out. a cog looking for growth and culture is like dreaming that a gear will become a driveshaft one day. if you were that good then it should have probably happened by now. A cog that squeaks enough at some point isn't worth greasing when it's cheaper to replace it. you're not that as special as your mom told you. no one else gives AF about you. quit your cog-b!tch!n& and maybe after this you'll make it to another engine for a rebuild. if you don't like it shut up and go. there's always someone who will take your place and you will be an entitled fading memory by the next day.

It’s a complex situation especially when you are dealing with a large number of specialized disciplines. Competence is the key in meeting performance expectations at every level. Having worked at Mattel for 35 yrs, I’ve seen incompetent employees get let go at all levels. It all comes down to meeting business objectives and weeding out those that aren’t cutting it. Unfortunately, more often than not good people get let go during layoffs, but that’s because it becomes a numbers game when it’s beyond a lack of competency. I wish everyone the best during what sounds like a difficult time. Remember, working for a large company is like going to a family reunion and being reminded of how much disfunction exists.

honestly, there's a lot of overpaid do-nothings that should've been terminated years ago. that salary can easily be used to hire two 'lower level' employees. would you keep someone who makes close to $200K but can't even handle a few projects? meanwhile, you have some entry level person ($60K) running a good chunk of a major line. mr. $200k has been useless for years. time to cut your losses and 'friendship ties' and get rid of this bad egg.

hey mister tough guy let me help you out here with some of a possible solution.
How about if you all who are quite so unhappy and wish for a much better "culture " would please find your way with your belongings to the nearest possible exit yes?
It would benefit all of those who would still like to work be less distracted by you and save our hr the bother of having to reserve these conference rooms just to give you your long goodbye papers.
what say you mister tough man? save you and me the trouble and paperwork. I say you are not fearless enough. bah. all talk no walk.

I have walked these hallways and corridors and all I have seen is an organization stocked with a generation of the most entitled, coddled and whiny children who have barely any idea how it is like to work in any other company. You have more than what most companies give their employees and yet you grouse and bemoan your lot in life like you are owed such. You are a generation of participation awardees. You think you deserve applause for just showing up. You want a pat on the back because you didn't sc--w up? Wake up. Cry babies the lot of you

all you p1ss@nts that are quaking in your boots about getting laid off probably deserve to get let go anyway. why else would you be sweating it so much. If you spent more time actually doing your jobs than checking this site maybe we wouldn't put your names on that damn list. so there's really not much you can do but wait for your turn since the ax comes for everyone. enjoy the time you have punks. You've been on easy street long enough.

CD needs a new car.
And bonuses for the top need to be funded.
What else do you need to know?
Keep your head down and try not to get noticed? That doesn't work dear friends.
No no no no no.

You do know that VPs get 300K and up plus more than 20% bonus structure right? That's not even including stock grants they get.
They're not going to cut that. They'll cut a few worker bees to pay these off. You can't even imagine how much each board member gets in stock. It's just obscene. All for the hard work of everyone.
But hey. It's just a layoff.
