Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

What can we do?

Shame on us allowing these “leaders” to do this to us. What can we do? Would be great to finally have some employees speak out and gain momentum. Wish we could build strength in numbers to get this ELT to listen.

Why do we need US Expats in Australia while we are laying off Australians, sick of teaching them for no return on our investment, while every 3 years we have to learn another set of needs and themes and ways of saying exactly what we were saying before “y’all” and its organise just for the record ;)

Chevron is a public corporation owned by shareholders - the largest being mutual funds and institutional investors - Company executives and employees have a very, very small slice of the two billion shares issued. The Company aim is to generate shareholder value in the form of share price appreciation and dividends. Doing that includes stock buybacks and controlling costs. Employing people is necessary to achieve shareholder value, but it is not the primary mission of the organization, merely a means to the end objective.

Why do we need Foreign Expats in the US while we are laying off Americans?

We need to stand up and ask the important questions while we lose our jobs…”Is Chevron getting rid of DEI?”

The time to organize is NOW! Not six months from now.

Do what to us? Pay us to do work for them and then if they don’t have any more work for us to do, pay us severance so we can comfortably transition to another job?

You work in O&G. Of course it's intrinsically unstable. Higher pay in the industry is largely a reflection of this "risk premium."

Stability comes from progressing your skills and growing your network. I've yet to meet a decent, well networked Petroleum Engineer who struggled to find well-paid work.

OP, where do you think you are??? if you want a say in it, maybe you should start your own company? you are an employee here, decision makers do not needs to act upon what you think.
P.S. EOI will be available.

"Chevron portfolio struggles and cost structure challenges are a Chevron issue, not a "you" issue. Pick up the phone and see what's out there. You should have already been doing this every 2-3 years anyway."

That is not really stability. You cannot build a life or family with that.
What is next are we going to regress from farmers to hunters and gatherers.
It seems the people with skills have unstable situations and the people with very
little usefulness up top have more stability. That is pretty fu---d up.

It's business, not personal. Stay as long as Chevron presents the best opportunity. Leave when something better presents.

@a3+1jmffttsg - I agree with your comments, it is the livelihood of thousands of people, but CVX only cares about its shareholders, employees are expendable. Employees should focus on gaining skills while working at CVX to make themselves more attractive to other employers. The days of Company loyalty and caring about its employees are long gone at CVX.

It’s a business? No cr-p. We’re making money and lots of it. We’re also making a ton of errors from an organizational standpoint. Yes it’s a business. It’s also the livelihood of thousands of people.

It's a business. This is how a business works. There will be future layoffs every 4-5 years. If you want control, start your own.
