Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Any thoughts on contractors?

Do you think contractors will be included as part of the 15 to 20% layoff mandate?

Chevron employees will take the fall. As they have their heads up their as--s talking in chevron gobbledegook and not doing any work. Contractors do all the work, you could sack 50% of employees and wouldn’t make a difference. Because the employees have to be autistic to pass the psych test, you will also save money on HR disputes as they are all touching each other up and being socially awkward.

I think about contractors all the time. They have more security than full timers. Every down turn they disappear for 6 months then their buddies get them back in on a higher pay.

As a few have already stated all roles in the org charts are in scope. The one question being asked is can this job be done offahore. Answer is yes, then goodbye contractor.

Not all contractors work in Agile-specific roles.

We have contractors that have been here over 15 years.

We have contractors that should have been hired and employees that should have been fired.

They will be let go as well but outside of the 15% - 20%. One of the IT heads mentioned they have been on watch right now. Many of these "deliver results" contractors are being used by Managers to get things done on their team and get PMP credit instead of making their employees accountable.

Mid-level make excuses that these contractors are needed and "special" - in reality because they are the "doers" they have the most knowledge of many Chevron systems they make their managers look good

Not a part of the 15-20%, but contractors with extremely high bill rates should be concerned.

Yes, but not included in the 15-20%. The labor costs are cheaper in Manila and India.

No. They don’t count as HC. That’s why they hire contractors.
