@af+1jmd89sth Oh, bless your heart. It’s only a voluntary option until Mar 1.
Then, it’s involuntary termination.
They offer this buyout because it’s cheaper than the costs associated with layoffs, including severance pay, unemployment benefits, and legal expenses.
It allows UHG to reduce their workforce voluntarily, which they hope will help avoid negative publicity and potential lawsuits that might arise from forced layoffs.
By offering buyouts, they can also strategically restructure the workforce, targeting specific groups of employees, such as older or higher-paid workers, to cut costs more effectively.
So, the next time you see a post about the federal government employees who are getting the 8 month severance, you can comment boo effing hoo. UHG usually gives only 1 week for every year worked.
Pay attention to the offer.
Do you still have to work until a certain day? Some are required to work thru May 1.
Go to the employee website and read about all the restrictions put on employees who accept the buyout, or even just give notice of resignation.
Accepting the buyout is a resignation.
Once you resign, you forfeit any accrued PTO.
And, you are not allowed to use any PTO once you have given notice.
If you miss any work before you fulfill your notice, you forfeit any benefits, including the severance package. (any missed work, including illness, surgery, prepaid cruises, death of family, traumatic injuries, etc. they don’t care. In their eyes, you have defaulted on your agreement, breached your contract).
If anyone is thinking of quitting, take all of your PTO before you give notice..

I was in the meeting. it's not a layoff. it's an option to VOLUNTEER to leave if we want to. if I did, they would pay me more than if I was actually laid off. so, not a layoff.

Yes, even if you didn’t receive a notice, be prepared for layoffs. Just see what is happening in the government, there are funding cuts coming soon to medicare and medicaid and all other programs, which means less profits for the company, which means they don’t need all of these workers anymore
