Hybrid to Remote

Hi all,
I joined the company three months ago, but I am going through a severe mental health crisis. I want to push past it, but my anxiety has gotten so bad that medication or any treatment is not working. I want to take a break from work because of this and blame it on burnout, but the team I’m on has a really important project with a deadline in May.
Is the company good with accommodating requests to remote work due to mental health?
I think I can push until May until after the project ends + save some money for the decision of quitting or staying bc right now, the thought of taking a break is the only thing keeping me going.

Thank you.

Sorry that you’re struggling.

Since you don’t qualify for FML you should seek a Medical Accommodation for a remote exception. They’ll require a physician recommendation. Ultimately, it will be up to your department to approve or decline it. But, they will need to justify a decline decision. Then I would consider the STD to care for yourself.

I took STD to deal with burn out and family health issues and got terminated as soon as I came back.

Take a medical leave as your role will be protected under FMLA. Also utilize your STD benefits so that you will get a full pay check while out. Your health both physical and mental is the most important thing. There will always be another project. Also, the project will still go on with or without you. Additionally you cant be held accountable either for taking FMLA. Make sure you document everything up to show what you did before you went out on medical leave. Hope this helps and good luck.

Thank you for your consideration! I am working to reassure myself that health is most important. However, I do not qualify for FMLA a because I have not worked a year yet… I may do STD if it gets worse, but I think remote work would help me a lot through this process.

take a medical leave. your health is more important than anything. you can take a leave, refresh and decide if you want to come back to work.
