Thread regarding Ecolab Inc. layoffs

Possible merger with P&G followed by layoffs?

I've been told by an investment banker friend that Ecolab is in talks to spin off the Institutional division and sell it to Procter and Gamble. Part of this entails a large layoff of Ecolab Institutional employees as territories will be greatly expanded geographically and customers will get fewer routine visits and mostly just emergency repair calls.

This will solidly position P&G in the Hospitality sector, effectively making them the only real game in town.

This is supposed to have been in the works for some time. The departure of long time CEO Douglas Baker is said to have been in response to these plans by the board.

Ecolab was a good company, but it had too many things consolidated without compensation following; it actually made it easy to leave, and the competition paid better with reigned in scope. I can’t name the competition of course, but the have plenty of former Ecolab employees and the reputation is quality employees with good experience come out of Ecolab, which is great. But the reasons they leave are definitely unfortunate. Best of luck for any cut or wanting to leave, and know there are good options out there and Ecolab employees are valued externally.

I don’t think they are very interested in the institution. The cost of operation is to high for the profit . Ecolab created a monster

Sorry to hear that things have gone bad, I spent 16 years with Ecolab and have great memories of the staff and Customers. Went as far as Corp Acct until health failed and was forced to retire. Customer service was always the difference that kept us in the accounts.

Something is definitely up. Constant increases on workload, hiring freezes (even hiring for positions vacated by employees that quit). Forget work/life balance, these folks need investigated for skirting labor laws by giving employees way more than 40 hour work loads and threatening them with "no overtime allowed."
Math is math. There are not 36 hours in a day, and there are not 8 days in a work week.

Silence speaks volumes. When was the last time any of us felt pressure to do our job in the field? Management is stone silent. Stock is in the garbage. Something is coming. Maybe not this. But they’re getting ready for something big.

The more I read it, the more I like it. P&G with brand and products, Ecolab with the service organization. Could be the industry ki---r and force a clean up of the poor management at Ecolab. Ecolab doesn’t understand how to grow Institutional. Hasn’t invested in innovation in ages. Keeps cutting people and therefore service not recognizing service is the only value the business delivers.

Very hard to believe - I will be happy to see

Any proof or denouncement from Ecolab.

The institutional division is the largest division of Ecolab

I believe around Covid, the board decided to save money they would do a "reorganization" of the company. This involved, combining ProGuard in to Ecolab Institutional, laying off about 40% of the workforce, and restructuring pay for all who remain. I believe this is why Doug Baker decided to leave, because he did not agree to the new direction of the company.
With the policies, the workload, and the pay structure we have now, you can see why there are so many people leaving. Lockouts on equipment orders for field stock every quarter, hiring freezes throughout the year, not getting paid for the extra items you sell, and the pay being substantially lower than before, does it sound like Ecolab is trying to hold onto and improve One Institutional?
