Thread regarding United Healthcare layoffs

Lay Offs due to offshoring and H1b visa staffing

I have been laid off from United Healthcare recently. It was no surprise to me. The organization was sending around an internal power point presentation on "how to" legally offshore work. They frame it as a downsizing. It is not. United Healthcare is filling positions with offshore and H1B staff to replace USA workers. You would think a company that receives 100 billion dollars a year in subsidy from the USA taxpayer would have loyalty to the American work force. They do not! This industry is broken for many reasons, but United Healthcare is the worst perpetrator in this industry bar none.

This is NOT FAKE NEWS. US UHG employees are currently training their overseas replacements. Older employees are being let go.

You get what you pay for. Suing CMS to improve Medicare Stars ratings won't work the next time.

Those people in the Philippines don't even know how healthcare works here in the US and they can't even communicate with the employees here is the US due to the language barrier. You should see how much stuff they have sc--wed up in the claims area.

I thought companies who replaced US workers with sending work offshore were going to be taxed or fined?

They have never paid people differently based on where they live, Seattle, NYC etc. Trust me.

It’s about policies which are about to change.

  1. Third party placement will be next to impossible or gone
  2. Wages will be doubled and location based wages will be unforced. No longer $60k- $80k in NYC/ LA/ Bay Area/ Seattle will work
  3. Must prove job qualifications and actual task performed. Site visit and fined will be heavy with criminal penalties.

Only loop hole kept open is to do offshoring until tariffs imposed.

Just got put in a meeting today with my entire team of 60 people, we were offered voluntary resignations. Moving to offshore and HB1 is the only thing I can think of that makes sense. I was in a meeting in January where they talked about how great 2024 was and how good business was and that 2025 is going be even better, so I don’t understand the need for massive layoffs. So it’s either corporate greed, or moving our jobs to offshore. Or both. Offshore does an awful job handling patient claims! I am thoroughly disappointed in UHC.

Just hope for the bi-partisan PBM breakup so Optum and UHC are forced to split. That's the best outcome that could happen.

Lumen Technologies is doing the exact same thing. Offshoring majority of US roles or OnShoring H1B candidates.
