GOP leaders look to Medicaid cuts as they seek $2T in savings

The federal Department of Government Efficiency led by Elon Musk, which is referred to as DOGE, is training its sights on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. DOGE representatives have been on site at the agency to examine spending data for potential fraud or waste and review the agency's organization and staffing, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The DOGE team requested access to CMS systems, which manage more than $1 trillion in annual payments, in early February. The request is part of a plan to cut federal spending by $1 trillion, with Medicaid cuts likely. CMS spent more than $1.5 trillion on health-care programs in fiscal year 2024, accounting for 22 percent of total federal spending, according to the agency's 2024 annual report. "Yeah, this is where the big money fraud is happening," Musk posted on X.

Only bare bones will be left behind if the mass layoffs start - profits cannot be increased by offshoring alone…mass layoffs are inevitable!

The possibilities for downside at Gainwell are endless in the current environment. At the state and corporate levels.

Feds reduce their grants to the states (Federal matching funds), states need to cut the budget...they look at programs that they can cut, they look at employees they can cut, they look at vendors (Gainwell and others) they can reduce. If Gainwell was smart (yeah...) they would use this as an opportunity to tell the states how they can save them money by taking on things that the state staff do themselves.

Simple - states cuts budget and Gainwell offshores jobs and mass layoffs follow.

If DOGE says we need to cut X percent of Medicaid employees, how do they do that when the employee are at the State level and work for vendors such as Gainwell? I guess the mandate would probably be more like "cut x percent from your budget". Then State would have to come to Gainwell for cuts. Not sure how this would work.
