Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

It's a dog eat dog company

Don't trust anybody here. People who you think are your friend will stab you in the back to get ahead. I've learned this the hard way.

@OP maybe redefine what you mean by “friend”. They’re just colleagues. Everyone needs to look out for themselves these days in this constant RIF environment. Never tell anyone anything that you don’t want blasted all over the place. Sorry this happened to you.

Work friends rarely translate to after work friends. My entire career it's been that way. You spend too much time with people not to develop at least some level of friendship. That doesn't mean your families vacation together. Work consumes a huge part of our lives. Unless your definition of friends is someone who would move a body for you, you do have friends of various levels at work. Focus on being on a team of people you can be yourself with and have candid conversations with. You will not survive the corporate machine alone. Just like in life, sometimes the people you trust burn you. It doesn't seem any more prevalent in one aspect of life or another. I've both been burned and had people look out for me. The best you can do is to find yourself on a team where your immediate peers and boss have your back. It's not easy to find that anymore but it is the only thing that makes it tolerable to be here.

If you think you have friends at work, you will know the truth when you leave. Unless you reach out to them, you will never hear from them again. It’s sad because I was super close to several and helped quite a few during rough times they were going through, covering for them. I chalk it up to them just surviving, working 50+ hours a week and trying to squeeze in family time, so there is nothing left for them to reach out to a coworker. Don’t take it personally when those close friendships end when your employment ends.

@ng
Your post reminds me of Rapunzel movie scene where the Evil Witch tells Rapunzel - ‘What did I tell you, Rapunzel? I warned you, didn’t I?’

I made the mistake thinking my coworkers were friends. Never again. My last role was the worst here a Elevance. I was hired into a pretty established team where they couldn’t deal with newbies. Needless to say I was riffed and I knew it was because I couldn’t buy the smoke bring blowed up my a-s on a daily basis.

If you don't have anyone at work who you can trust--and never have--you might want to reconsider how you interact with your stakeholders and teammates.

Stop offshoring, importing every person you can find from offshore, then every dog here can have a job.

I don't meant to laugh, but tossing coworkers/subordinates under the bus has been a company core value going back more than 20 years.
I actually had someone complain to my director that I didn't know my place with my "betters" because I put in a facilities request .

The backstabbing is especially bad since the larger rifs started. If you need to vent, share with a friend outside of work. And forget knowledge sharing. Nobody will share anything in this work environment. It is now each person for themselves, unfortunately.

@OP most, if not all, have had this experience at work. This is the norm these days. Sad but true!

Lol, it's a dog eat dog world.

Don't trust anyone here, at any employer, or anywhere employing Felicia.

And still no one can define Felicia's job duties 🤔 Gail, can you assist with the question?

There are no friends at work
Never. It may seems like that but it’s survival of the beast and especially in this IT industry at this point in time
