Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Layoff priority.

They should start with the work from home crowd.
Those are the most expendable as evidenced by their lack of work ethic.

It takes some real boomer brainworms to think that because a role can physically be done remotely that you can throw anyone into the role and get good results.

Sure, I’ll punch a clock. But then I’m done taking calls with Manila and India outside of 9-5.

The reality is that wfh fits most people’s work-life integration. The company can ask me to log on at 7PM and I’m ok with it if I wfh because I adjust my schedule throughout the day.

The work gets done when the work gets done.

I knew a guy (who still works in Chevron) I sat a few cubes down from him and all he did was trade stocks and watch YouTube most of the day. Now he’s an architect at Chevron lol. Where as most WFH people I know feel the pressure to always be online and working because it’s WFH

You sound like someone who wants to have others in the office so they can convert their word document to pdf

The 100% in-office crowd are dinosaurs who can't handle change, don't do well with new technology, and can't work without stringent supervision. They'll be no safer than anyone else.

You sound like the type that goes into office and spends 3 hours bsing with your coworker, locks yourself in the bathroom to trade stocks, then takes a 2 hour lunch before heading home at 4 pm just to avoid rush hour traffic, and finally complains to your single mom how much work you did today and you can’t wait to get a promotion soon. You’re first to go buddy.

The WFH simply proved to the leadership that work can be done remotely so why not move that work to India. Not saying it will be the same quality of work but we (Chevron employees) did it to ourselves

What I want to know is who is it that you think works from home all the time? Is just people on your floor that would normally be in their office? Or is it people that work in drilling execution whose job it is to wake up at all hours of the middle of the night for issues that are on-call 24/7? I just want to fully understand because some roles are given extra leeway due to the nature of the job and the fact that they're extremely difficult to fill jobs because of the 24/7 on call expectation.

Says OP and his inefficient a-s who spends 3 hours a day in the lunch room, toilet and having water cooler conversations.

its depends on who you know up there who can help you stay
