EOI & Relocation

Anyone else notice in the EOI terms that if you’re offered a job that requires relocation, and decline, no severance…? If I’m in San Ramon I’d hit the AEOI button now as hard as I can.

@ae5, in Houston you still have to pay the crazy expensive insurances and property taxes with or without a job. In CA if left standing or EOI, the income taxes lower until you get another job.

@dc+1jm537chf Houston is not cheap, it's more expensive than San Ramon, you will pay more in property taxes than income taxes saved in California. Property and auto insurance is crazy expensive. Groceries are 20% more expensive. It's a sh---y place to live. I made the mistake of taking the relocation from San Ramon to Houston. Worst decision of my life.

Only positive is bigger home for the same money.

From what I read in the recent HR information, there are two EOI opportunities: AEOI and EOI during the event. If you take the AEOI and it's approved, you're gone. If you wait for the EOI during the event, you have to apply to at least one job. The selection person (whoever that is) can offer you any position and if you decline, then there is no severance package. So, if you are in San Ramon and don't want to move, then do the AEOI. There is a possibility that you will be asked to be in a transition position even with AEOI. You would need to complete the transition time to get your severance package.

Yes, the severance package is the same as EOI for those that are “left standing “. The EOI just saves you the trouble of participating in the hunger games. You must apply to at least one and a maximum of 3 jobs, however your PDR can also sign you up for more that fit your profile even though it may be a job or location that you don’t like. “ in this last scenario, if you are offered that job and you elect not to take it well there is no severance.

So choose wisely if you want to participate in this year‘s edition of the hunger games, and may the odds be ever in your favor

If you are offered a job anywhere with Chevron and decline, you don't get severance.

The only time severance is offered in lieu of relocation is a forced relocation due to a merger and it is usually written in the Change of Control documents which end up being applicable to both sides of the merger for fairness.

I knew a Texaco manager who was promised a great job and promotion by buddies in Chevron at the 2002 merger. When the job was offered and was not as a promised, he declined. Oops, no severance!

First, for San Ramon the writing is on the wall and will eventually be closed.

Second, do not put willing to move or relocate on your workday

Third, when you are asked to apply you can see if there’s any job you would be willing to take. If not, do the second EOI.

The process is simple. Don’t apply for a job that is in another location and you’ll still get severance if left standing. Be thankful you work for a company that isn’t sending an email to tell you bye and not pay you anymore.

Take the EOI while you can because we folks in San Ramon won’t know if our jobs are in scope to move to Houston or not until later. The problem is that the information isn’t coming out timely. They may be doing it this way as to not have to pay many for relocation costs.
