I am old and close to retirement. We have gone through layoffs every 2 years since 2018. As a young talented person, you would be better served at ExxonMobil or BP. They will tell you it's the industry, but our management cannot get it right despite being in business for 100 years.

Há. Not ExxonMobil. Just look at their layoff board here on this site. They are ahead of us on the layoff and outsource to India plan. We are just trying to keep up.
Use your bright minds to build something better in this world.
When I think of Chevron today, I imagine it's how someone working at a typewriter factory must have felt in 1970. Like "There's these new things called computers that everyone thinks will doom the typewriter industry, but that's far in the future. Everyone uses typewriter today and will for a while." It's a moribund business, except hating typewriter wasn't a mainstream political opinion.
It still pays well though that might change. Clearly you can't look at having a long term career anymore
Its not just Chevron. O&G is going through a prolonged downsizing period in the US. It's a hated industry in the booms and the busts.
No. Just stay away from oil and gas. It’s an industry that will keep pumping out oil and gas with less people. Start a business.
When I joined Chevron, I thought it was the only company I would ever work for and my kids would someday work here too. I wouldn’t wish Chevron on any of my friends or family.
We may be po-p compared to XOM, but chevron is still better than dumpster fire BP.
Agreed, near zero development, and no opportunity to skill you up with marketable skills. What counted here was having a MBA that is until every other person had one.
