Volunteering a RIF

Anyone ever had any success/advice about volunteering to be RiF’d?

I am at the point where I want to quit due to the s h i t show this company has become but would prefer to be RIF’d.

There is an upcoming RIF happening in my area in March. (I have never gotten below an exceeds in my time at the company, if that matters)

File a complaint to HR against your leadership. That should be the beginning of the end. Retaliation is real.

If you tell them you want to be RIF’d, they will wait you out and hope you leave for free. RIF’d employees cost them money, especially if you have been there long enough to get the max SUB. I know someone who volunteered and they waited him out until he retired. In the interim, his manager made his life miserable so he would want to leave. It worked. So, stay tight lipped, maybe miss a few deadlines and seem less flexible and helpful so when they need to lay someone off on your team, you are the obvious choice. Not the way any of us want to be remembered, but if 6 months SUB means more to you than your legacy, go for it. I for one, want to leave on a high note.

Just start doing the right thing, for sure leadership will hear of that and RIF you. Also try quiet quitting. While doing so, update resume, do some digital housekeeping etc. Do as little as possible every single day.

Tell everyone you have no work, even if you do. That's what I did.

You might get yourself a RIF if you complain or present in the way that leadership thinks you are not adaptable to the daily changes. I survived at least 30 RIFs and finally my number was up a few weeks ago. I have not been the most open to the millions of changes they have thrown upon us, so maybe it worked

Your ratings mean nothing. Plant a seed with your direct leader and if you fall in a bucket they can choose from, maybe they will pick you... it's likely the decisions have already been made through the summer.

I don't want to be rif"d either! I have survived multiple rifs in the past and the prospect of being rif'd is devastating...unless I guess you really want to be rif'd. I don't!!

I don’t want to be riffed. I say people are adults and if they say they want to be riffed, I take them at their word. Let them volunteer.

Also, please be careful what you wish for....read other posts on this site about how horrible the job market is. If this is truly what you want I would start looking for another role now so you have a job to fall back on.

I was successful going to my mgr and offering to save someone else’s job when I hear a RIF was coming up. However, 5 months later (this week) they laid everyone off from my old team, so they will fulfill your wish one way or another…

Start complaining and talk openly about how you want to be riffed in meetings. That was what a coworker did and she was riffed. I would think if you made your wishes known to your manager they would consider it. But managers here really su-k, so who knows. According to one blowhard “leader” on this site all you have to do is start making your managers life difficult and you’ll be on the riff list in no time.

You can tell your manager, but there is no guarantee they will rif you
