Take life into your own hands - even if you think your personal chances of being layed off are slim, start networking, applying for roles, or start something of your own (a recession is the best time to found a startup, historically). Only the paranoid survive! Isn’t that Grovian culture that’s been engrained in us?

This is just way to common in tech in general, particularly in Silicon Valley. Too many friends have gone to a new company, only to find themselves on the street 6 months later because the project they were hired for was already dying and then cancelled.
Pray to be cut. The price for survivorship? More work to you, from those who didn't make it. They never cut the work. Ever.
