Yes one year on the mid 2000 there was no focal pay raises. There were only salary market adjustments. I got like an 8% salary market adjustment and was asked to keep my mouth shut because the rest of my peers got Zero. The dirty thing is that all my peers were moved to a different job code just before focal, making them ineligible for the market adjustment.
In March of 2001, six months after the dot-com bubble burst, they just finished going through the regular Focal process and then decided to give everyone half of whatever raise they were supposed to have received.
My half-raise (4.5% cut down from 9%) in 2001 was the largest raise I received at Intel until April 2022. Every raise between those years was 3% (+/- 0.5%) even when getting an exceeds, an outstanding, or a promotion. As a consolation, I did get over $10K from the High-Tech Employee Antitrust Litigation where Adobe, Apple, eBay, Google, Intel, Intuit, LucasArts, and Pixar conspired to keep employee wages low.
There was a year in the late 2000s where they gave a 1% raise. Then they announced that they were only giving half and would give the second half the next quarter. The next quarter, they canceled giving the second half. But in 25 years, I do not recall ever having a 0% focal budget.
All of the raises were given with the crazy out of cycle promos and outside recruiting. Nothing left.
No worries. PG will have the government to chip in for the raises for next year.
You’re at a dying company, most likely doing bare minimum, there are layoffs in bound, and you are worrying about a future raise, Sounds par for the course for an intel employee. Enjoy unemployment.
Inflation adjustment raise coming end of this month. Only 5% though.
Companies don’t give salary increases based on inflation. Inflation can be up or down. Salaries are adjusted according to cost of labor. But of course, if businesses are performing poorly, companies limit salary increases and cut workforce. Even in hard times good companies give merit increases to critical employees.
Around 2008-2009 (as i recall) we had a 0 focal budget. i got an "Exceeds" rating with no money. No wonder we're failing.
Intel avg raise past 2 decades is between 1 and 3 percent. They often do promotions in years with no raise. This means you can get promoted with NO raise.
Send an email to your manager asking him what percentage raise you will get next year. Do it before next Thursday.
