Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Addition by subtraction does not equal your underststanding of M&A

If you're still in the Stream, strap in, hold tight, and appreciate the fact that you're weathering the storm of an M&A. Survival is a skill—not a stroke of luck.

If you're still grumbling from within, maybe the problem isn’t the current—it’s your own resistance to the flow. This forum has birthed cannibals, devouring progress instead of building it. Shame.

If you can make it better—then make it better. No excuses.

If you can’t… why are you still there?

And if you’re here but powerless to change a thing—tighten your grip, brace yourself...

Or step aside.

See beyond the branches whipping at your face. Recognize the forest, not just the trees. Adapt. Or be left behind.

Tough to adopt or try to make progress with an organization in paralysis. At one point I said why waste time bringing ideas forward that always die a quick death. Glad I was relieved of my duties 4 years ago and life after s—tstream has been way better.

You're a complete dope...these are all beancounter targeted RIF's and if you're "lucky enough" to be on the lower end of the payscale, or far enough from retirement benefits paid by WS, you're safe PERIOD! If you su-k at what you do, or just skate by, you'll just get moved around to other organizations so they can deal with it. The skill of survival only helps either after the axe falls, or if you're someone left who will be expected to do twice (or more) as much at your affordable salary 😉

If you think that Windstream/Uniti is going to be in existence 12-18 months from now, you're fooling yourself.
IF there isn't already a deal worked out. Recession is right around the corner. The combined company is going to be too debt laden to weather it. Likely culminating to the new entity going into bankruptcy itself. One which I doubt it will come out whole.
My position is that Digital Bridge, owners of Zayo, end up with parts or most of the assets for a song.
This has Adelphia written all over it. Look up that history of you're too new to Telecom to know it.
Advice is, get out while you are still mobile. Once the hammer drops there's going to be too many people looking for too few positions. Change industries if you have to.
Before you do, use all the sick time and optional holidays you can. Don't let them get out of not paying your vacation time.

"Survival is a skill—not a stroke of luck." Sorry, but that does not hold true in today's Corp. world. You have no say nor can do nothing to prevent getting cut. The HR team and or the headhunter in charge of cutting the herd looks at 1 thing and 1 thing only. The salary you make and all the vacation time you have accrued is what is looked at, and IS the deciding factor. You are out, and will be replaced by someone younger who will do the job at 1/3 the salary you are at.

Sounds like something that Omar (Tattoo from fantasy island) would say. Da plane de plane.

Adapt!? LOL - There are only so many behinds that can be licked to secure your position - puns intended.
Just remember to make yourself secure by refusing to share knowledge, do not train your replacement! Do not put work on shared drives - make it so that if let go they need to start from scratch on your portion of any projects. If asked to assist with a new employee 'on ramping' say that you are exploring a career move and that another person would be a better choice. The managers and above generally know little and count on senior employees to get younger employees up to speed so they can cut the more expensive older employees - do not assist them in this endeavor!
