Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

PDC for your job

In the Q/A, after the cameras were off it was noted we will be assigned a PDR (not necessarily our current PDR) and have to go through the PDC process. I feel like at this point I might as well apply for other companies as well. Question from me (I’m a PSG-21) is with the inevitable thinning of middle management, what is the likelihood of a higher position bumping me out in the PDC process. I’m still new to the company and haven’t gone through re-org.

In the past you were allowed to post down 1 psg so you’ll be going against 22s, not 23+

In the past, low level managers were pushed out so higher level managers could drop down and take their jobs. But if you aren’t a team lead yet, you’ll just be competing with other individual contributors.

Seems like the resulting org - who stays and who goes- has more to do with their networking skills than anything else. If you have a good network, you’re good but if not, you might think about looking.
People who worked evenings and weekends and praised for a job well done have been cut.

this is the time when all of us that were "stuck" in a promotion bottleneck will have more opportunity than those with higher PSG's

Definitely apply for jobs even if you might stay, you need to look after yourself first.

A lot of middle managers have lost their technical edge and will demand a higher salary than you currently get, so might not be competitive for the jobs to which you apply.

It really just depends on your team, function, and need for your role rather than what exactly your PSG is. If your team runs pretty lean I’d say you’re most likely on the safer side but if you are a bunch of even lower PSGs splitting a lot of work or not delivering enough business value (“bang for buck”) then I’d say most likely someone would need to go.

For cost reasons, the open jobs will be biased toward lower pay grades. It’s the higher grades that aren’t going to have chairs when the music stops.

If I were you, and especially if you are young, I'd look for a new job elsewhere.
If you are not in a hurry you can play with the EOI process, which is understandable of course and grab some deserved money. They are philanthropic so what you'll get id deserved.
But all in all it'll take several months to achieve.
Are you ready to work in a blur environment during months, especially if you have potential ?
