Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

Consequences

What are the actual consequences of not adhering to the RTO. My hub is a ghost town. I know it is part of your review, but what is the consequence? Smaller bonus, no raise??

In tech, you cannot get an exceeds rating without meeting RTO.

You and others not going in 3 days a week is what will prompt them to go back to 5 days a week in office working which sc--ws us all. Do your part! People refusing impacts us all in the end. In office working which sc--ws goal as been in workday for over a year. We had it for a 2024 goal populate and a 2025 goal.

Personally, I think there will be a sizeable wave of resignations after bonus payout later this month and LTI payout in March. People will be able to keep their 401K match from Jan, roll their balances (401K and Pension) into another qualified retirement plan (new employer or a self directed IRA), and get on with things. After all the exodus, the remaining people will probably be safer for a while as long as they're performing because work still needs to get done and the exodus combined with all the layoffs is going to create pain points throughout the organization where there are not enough resources. The bank may deny this and continue to layoff, but the senior leadership cannot just wish this reality away. This might possibly give remaining employees at least a tiny bit of leverage when it comes to RTO pushback. Maybe not, but that's my theory as of today. Time will tell. Be well everyone.

Don’t get comfortable if you get an exception for any reason except a medical reason. Centralizing teams in one location is in the layoff 101 playbook
Home one day - office or no job the next day

You could try to get a RTO exception. There are lots of people who get them and I’ve heard rumblings that they are being used as special privileges to reward the favorites.

Even if you are the best there is a chance that they won’t give you an “extraordinary” rating for political reasons so don’t expect that… If you complied with RTO and hit all goals…

From what I have gathered, RTO has been added as a 2025 goal for anyone that meets either criteria below.

  1. The employee is located in a RTO hub market where RTO completed in 2024
  2. RTO has not occurred yet in the employee's market, but the employee is hybrid or office-based and has had an assigned seat all along.

I'd guess as RTO hits the remaining hub markets the RTO goal will be added to each employee in that market that are required to return.

Not everyone at the bank but those identified as required to RTO.

"RTO goal has been added to everyone’s workday."

This is blatantly untrue.

RTO goal has been added to everyone’s workday. Good luck to those who think it does not matter. Just more money for those who adhere to split amongst ourselves next March. Please keep complaining and keep on wfh!

You'll eventually be fired/easily be in the next round of layoffs. It won't hurt the company to fire you. They'll replace you with someone who will do your job for 40% less. Don't give them ammo to fire you.

If you only average 2 days a week in the office, can you manager still give you a "meets expectation" rating at year end? Asking for a friend :)

This largely depends on department and managers. In our department you will not be eligible for a “exceptional review” funny thing is they can only give out 2 or 3 of those reviews anyway and we have a team with 10+ ppl , meaning if you all RTO and also do your real job only 3 of you can be exceptional .. the rest of you ,well you’re getting played.

Nothing immediate but EOY review will show RTO goal as not met leading to PIP and then termination without severance.
