DEI is to Blame But Not Why You Think

DEI has ki-led this company, but it isn't why you think. Sure, it helped usher in plenty of undeserving advancements or check the box hires. But let's be honest AA has done that for decades and there also are some great people that came via that route. Let's not forget the good-ol-boy system either. You don't know how many random analysts ive met with mass comm degrees that just so happen to have daddies with 40 years at halliburton. Any who, the real damage was done because of the group of people who used this DEI snake oil to advance their careers were all people with no backbone, slimy, and good at lying with a smile. Mostly white men. They weren't out to help anyone but their selves. Thats who we got so many horrible leaders. Never let a good tragedy go to waste. Further more, the leaders with a backbone and actually honest or cared were ran off because they wouldn't buy into the crazy knee je-k agenda. So no, it's not the person in the cube next to you with a funny name that ruined this company, it's the empty suit at the top that exploited him/her.

DEI alive and well. Just look at Bondi and Patel in the gov’t.

Wait, dei is ok if it’s dear leader… got it

The problem was not the tip of the hat to being more inclusive; it was all the proportions handed out for participating in the women's network, the pride parade, and ethnic appreciation days. Any of these are fine extracurricular activities, but promotions and opportunities should reflect direct contributions to our money-making business.

Excellent post. The exact intent of DEI was to look beyond gender, race, s-xual orientation, or whatever non-meritocratic attributes in the hiring process. It was to prevent clubs of similar-looking and thinking cliques from forming, whether that be a club of old boys, college frat mafia, Asians, indians, women, or blacks. Unfortunately, that concept was shamefully misconstrued in corporate America.

Race shouldn’t matter, only competence and qualification, OP is racist towards white men.

Op could have benefited from a mass comm degree…

All I know is, if you're racist towards ANYONE, you're a sack of sh-t. Bad management is bad management.

“ why is race such a thing all of a sudden. you're either competent or youre not”

Have you seen chevrons d&c? You will understand why.

At a smaller independent now with leadership mostly coming from majors who didn't want to play the game. As it turns out we have a pretty diverse staff and great place to work. The president told us last year our DEI policy is the same as my grandpa's: be fair, work hard, treat everyone with compassion and respect, and treat others as you would want done to you.
