Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

They want you to leave

If a company is instituting annoying and stupid policies, giving no raises and cr-p bonuses, it’s because they want you to leave. Yes, even you, the “top performer”. They don’t care if you leave. Your team might but your “CEO” doesn’t. They know the work will get done by whoever is still here and they can just replace you with somebody making half your salary. Please let this inform anything you hear about our “culture” and our “values”.

From what I’ve seen on my own team salaries in India are almost exactly half of what we’d pay here lol

You can tell when someone hasn’t had to find a job in this market… 👇🏾

You can tell when someone posting is in some level of management and when it's some 30 year IT guy who can be replaced in 3 seconds. I'd love to know when someone has been replaced at half the salary. If that happened, it obviously shows the prior person was paid way too much. I know no one would take my job at 50% of the salary because every other company pays market.

But if the company is soooo bad, and your frozen salary is sooo low, and your bonus is sooo low... why are you still here?

It's one thing to complain about management's policies or ego. But if you think the company su-ks and your pay su-ks, doesn't that fit the exact description of what the company is trying to do- get rid of people who are just going to resist any change and are overpaid for doing a mediocre job? Because if u were really underpaid, you'd have found a better job with a company your respect long ago.

Just keeping it real. I like it when management shares insights here. The whiney entitled kids in their first job need to go.

Absolutely. Plus, Denver has a lot of people that have been with the company for a long time who max out on severance payments. People are quick to say how great TIAA is to give Denver such a long notice before severance. The reason that they did that is cause most people will be gone before lights out and they save on all of those severance payments. This is why they got rid of PTO a few years ago and went to an undefined number - you don’t have to pay it when people leave. The company is in purge mode but masking it as “exciting changes” and a lot of people are too dim to see it for what it really is.

The new corporate buzz word is “right-size”. Companies will make the place barely tolerable to get employees to leave. Companies do not want to pay severance.

Why do you think some companies want RTO 5 days a week? They know nobody wants it and it will raise attrition. That’s the goal of it. Even executives don’t want to be in 5 days a week. It’s pointless.

An Unskilled workforce increases a high turn over rate with errors galore 😳 to be fixed or purged into the dust. Money 💰 spent inappropriately without good management leads to chaos ending in a negative impact.

Yes, they can just replace you with somebody making half your salary. But they will cost the company more money by all the mistakes that they did. Who cares, as long as the CEO is getting her $20 millions bonus.

Age old strategy for head count reduction! Make the work environment miserable and see who leaves. SOP for poor leadership.
