Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Efficiency Quagmire

Has anyone else noticed that doing the most basic things at this company take a herculean effort? Even sharing ideas, giving instructions, and having people reading your emails properly somehow turns into a mess.

It’s redunkulous. The simplest of things require several sidebar pings and intervention to correct a basic flaw in the UI. Act if congress the. Then the entire debate of if its a defect or not. Fix the mfer.

Nothing is easy here. Calling IT? Prepare to follow up 7 times. Need approval on a project? Prepare to have to get 10 approvals. Want a wellness reward? Don’t use the app, it doesn’t work. This company makes everything hard because of fear, inefficient systems and inept leaders.

Literally 2+ hrs in a meeting to develop TWO slides. THEN, the revision meeting. It’s the norm! Rinse repeat multiple times a week.

The actual corporate values:

Diversity = Offshoring
Collaboration = Competition
Integrity = CYA
Agility = Rebadging
Leadership = Ineptitude

The actual purpose: Line executive pockets and those of investor friends on the backs of providers, members, employees.

Elevance is dedicated to improving the health of its members. That includes us as employees.
Just last week I was at my PCP for my annual exam, and mentioned that stress was an issue. She directed me to take two PowerPoints and call her in the morning. I added some Excel charts for added effectiveness.

OMG! These posts make me so glad I didn't post into higher positions at this company where all I do is create PPTs for the upper mucks. I have heard some nightmare stories on this PPT creation topic over the years. Glad I have avoided it so far.

I've been flat out told to make ppts pretty and not worry about the content accuracy.

Hazing by ppt is accurate af.

OMG THE POWERPOINT INSANITY HERE! Countless hours tweaking a presentation is totally insane.
And then what is the only document SPARK can't do anything with: POWERPOINT!

I can relate to this so much. So many hours spent with my manager micromanaging a ppt. She could never really tell me what was wrong with it, send me an example of a peers. I would look at mine and look at my peers and they were nearly identical yet mine wasn’t “right”. It felt like some weird hazing ritual or something. Well I got riffed and my new manager is not a freaking lunatic like my last.

Then again, it's very cheap labor wasting so much time (and inflating CGS revenue) so SVPs+ don't care, as long as they get a beautiful powerpoint and have an cronie to blame if it looks like accountability might be thrown their way.

My job was threatend a couple years ago over a coupld slides that were ultimately just tables. It was not executive audience enough so my actual Powerpoint skills and critical thinking were questioned by a higher up leader. Meanwhile my boss sat on their hands and threw me under the bus despite it being their direction to just get something on paper.
Aside from the fact that my boss was awful and could only exist on the back their team, a freakin Powerpoint almost got me on the rif list All my years of dedication almost went out the door because of a bad manager and Powerpoint.
The truth is if it's not on Powerpoint it doesn't exist to executives. The only thing they care about is cost and benefit.
Does it help anyone? Don't care. Does it make sense? Don't care. Is it on a pretty slide for SLT to gloat over. Absolutely yes. Here we are, watching millions of dollars go out of the window because a single executive audience Powerpoint slide will never convey the disaster happening at the project level. Any executive level Powerpoint is devoid of actual transparency. Good thing that's a culture common. Now it will change, right? Give me a freakin break.

When I joined a few years ago from a company where I was literally leading a region’s outcomes, I was shocked to see how much focus and stress was put on simply creating one PPT slide to perfection. I knew several weeks in that I got myself a lemon. I do about 5 percent of what I was doing in my previous company, and sadly I’m scared it’s lowering my resilience and confidence to go back out and find an actual role that is par with normal functioning

I feel this to my core! Every day it’s a disaster! You have to claw and fight to maybe make a little headway and then it’s back down to the bottom to try again or just give up. They rif’d so many that actually knew stuff. Then they hired all these people from outside, they have no knowledge and no real training… the dangerous part is they think they know but they don’t. They just throw stuff at the wall and hope it sticks. It’s a literal mess every single day.

It’s a crazy environment to work in. No one wants to share info and hangs onto dead projects for dear life. Those of us that are very capable have to sit there and sometimes be patronized and micro managed. I honestly don’t know how I am going to contain my laughter come raise time when my 2% becomes less. I cannot take this company seriously, nor its performance goals. I came so close yesterday to saying IDGAF to an obnoxious request. I will say though, I am meticulously documenting projects, timelines, conversation recaps and other items of note in my personal planner just incase.

Every call I'm on, rifs are mentioned. People talking about how uncertain and afraid they are. Congratulating each other on surviving another week.
People are not and cannot be expected to work at full capacity in our toxic environment.
The threat from management is that we better do more with less so we're not next. You know what, when you're surprised Every week that you and your team haven't been arbitrarily rifed what is the incentive to keep trying. Seems like I'm just as likely to be rifed being an exceeds associate as I am as a meets or partial. So no, I'm not going to try extra hard to complete my tickets. I'm going to do less with less because my raise and bonus are less with less. It’s not lazy, it's reciprocity.

I think this constant state of layoffs is causing horrendous ( justifiable) distraction and most who are left are doing the work of more than two people. It’s really sad.

It's absolutely ridiculous and it continues to get worse. Something that used to be so simple is now: "submit a ticket" and wait...
