Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Redundancy

Rather than waiting for the inevitable, is there anyway that you can request your redundancy and get out. I would rather leave with something but considering just cutting my losses ANI has become a complete joke from the top to the bottom. The ATSC department is just limping on at this rate with all plans to make us look busy while the big push is on to move all to India.

If you've been there a while, it makes sense to hang on and get tax free redundancy money when it happens. Remember, the first 30K is tax free. The taxman does no one any favours so better take take whatever you can get. That'll give you a decent emergency fund. This is also a good time to do an overview of your finances and make sure you are saving enough and not spending unnecessarily. But make sure you do keep learning/improving skills a little every day so that you are in a good position when you have to move. I agree with the previous poster, don't tell your manager you are unhappy. Even when you move teams within the same company, you can get shafted(my experience). The manager of the team you are moving from gives you a low score because he doesn't have to keep you happy. The manager of the new team doesn't care because you are new so you don't have to be given a good score. Wherever you move to, it will take a while for you to get established.

There's no list, don't be fooled. If it were that easy, everyone would do it

“Yes - just ask to be put on ‘the list’. Know a few who have done this“

What is ‘the list’ and how do you go about being put on it, is it through HR?

Because watching it go down could equal a 6-12 month redundancy package.

I left a couple of months ago.
It’s so much better in the new place.
Why sit around watching it go down the pan when you could be somewhere new, where your skills are appreciated and you are paid what you’re worth.

If you're happy enough in your job then plough along, do enough to get by and top up your skills/ CV.

But play the game and tell your manager you're happy (unless you're close to them). Otherwise come bonus and payraise time they'll make sure you're not getting highest amount possible because why keep someone happy who wants to leave (happened to me).

I'm giving Allstate NI another 10 years before it's lights out. It'll get progressively harder to stay each year and the redundancies will reduce.

Why would the company pay you to leave? Because they are a sh--e company & their goal is to move operations to India as quickly & quietly as possible to cut costs. They are weighing up the cost of redundancy against paying considerably less in Rupees & concluding the medium to long benefits outweigh the initial costs incurred. Cost is everything when they have both eyes on their share price to keep shareholders sweet.

Why would the company pay you to leave? If you're unhappy, your best bet is to leave now BEFORE a wave of redundancies causes the job market to be saturated. But unless redundancies hit your team, you're not going to be able to volunteer.

It’s called Voluntary Severance, it’s never been on offer at ANI.

It's called quitting.

Announcing your redundancy? Who do you think you are.

It's funny how people stay someplace miserable foe the hope of a hand out but than will bi--h about being laid off when they get it.

This company is so backwards filled with entitlement issues.

Yeah you can, I did this a few weeks ago. Just mention it to HR that you would like to take your redundancy and they will sort it all out.
