Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

We have so many useless employees

Not to mention layers and layers of useless managers. I'm willing to bet my house that 90 percent of them - if not more - will still be here after the dust settles. I've survived several layoffs at Chevron, and not once did they get rid of the actual underperformers. Mark my words.

We are one of those groups that literally have as many managers as the people doing the work. The majority of my meetings are with the managers providing status. Everything comes back to me so it’s always a waste of time. How much more productive would we be without all the management. We trained teams to be self sufficient so let them be.

Correct. WAY too many layers. Some teams have more upper management people than actual people doing the work. Ridiculous! It's like a few performers keep so many others on their shoulders.

I propose we take the bottom 20% of performers and throw them off BigFoot, into the Gulf of America. The ones that don’t drown or get eaten by sharks, we keep. May the odds be ever in your favor.

People need to understand that their bosses right now will probably not be the same bosses doing their PMP at the end of the year. So if you’re a useless agile coach or IT program manager, you better get with the business, wake yo azz up, and smell the coffee.

Instead of going around worried about how effective your agile team is performing by agile standards, maybe work on things that actually contribute to the bottom line.

There has been some decently skilled people who became utterly useless RTE and PMs because they thought this was the path to go for career progression. Boy, what a disastrous utilization of people. If you think MN is a fan, or even a little OK with this waste, you might as well just click that EOI button to save yourself the embarrassment and exit gracefully

It’s like what do you expect? Of course we’re going to su-k as a corporation if we’re only promoting our friends. It’s so obvious who’s getting brought up through the ranks and their outside associations with the PDR reps and other managers. Interesting how a lot of them go to the same church in Midland. Some really needs to come in and clean house and not just the low hanging fruit.

I'm newer to Chevron so haven't been through one of these layoffs here. However, when I've asked people about the last layoffs, everyone seems to agree that the ones that were let go didn't shock anyone. As in, they let go the lower performing employees. So this seems like either you don't have a firm grasp on who's a lower performing employee or things were done differently in your department.
