Thread regarding CDW layoffs

Earnings Call Excuse Bingo!!

We are just two days from the 4Q24 and full-year 2024 earnings release and call. Over the past several quarters in which we missed our targets, the leadership team has found ways to abdicate responsibility by either claiming results were driven by events that are out of their control or their actions haven't had time to take effect.

Here is what is on my earnings call bingo card:'

  • Customers holding spend due to AI
  • Our AI activities have not been in place long enough to feel the full positive impact
  • DeepSeek is causing customers to pause their spending
  • Customers are still navigating cloud and cloud implementations
  • When AI has greater market adoption, our growth will accelerate
  • We are fully positioned for AI adoption
  • Our partners are slowing their investments
  • Our latest acquisition will help us to take share

What am I missing?

"I will be ok because of my position "

You sure about that?

The numbers still reflect the bad news the poster mentioned before. The layoffs were planned for the second quarter before the end of the year and someone I know at the highest level confidentially told me they are still happening. So all of you are right. I will be ok because of my position but a larger percent will be exited and not just low performers but higher compensated people in many departments,

Good job CDW team. Take well-deserved kudos. Solid earnings improvement, however 2 drivers of near-term layoffs are visible in the numbers. First is the lower gross margins which will drive more netted down acquisition types like Mission Cloud at the expense of CDW home-teams, second is the huge jump in S&A from $718M to $746M on $50M reduction in gross profit. This means CDW will need to cut approximately $40-$50M out to get to the performance levels needed for $240-$250$ share price range to buy all the execs a new Volvo, or increase sales by 3-4% which is not very likely. If you are a low performer or in a duplicative or non-essential, or on a team that will likely be replaced by acquisition or outsource you should probably look, and jump, as the market remains very competitive. Cuts almost a certainty in March or April like the poster below said. The wild-card is that Orange Man may start cutting taxes on capex again, which is very positive for CDW. Finally, watch NSIT tomorrow for more clues. Is it the Market shifting, or is it CDW performing well? Either way, Chris happy and her team of industry-leading d-mb-d-mbs are safe for now. Big red happy-glasses for reading the company messages this week, and a hatchet under her desk.

Reuters - CDW on Wednesday beat Wall Street estimates for the fourth quarter, helped by growing demand for its IT solutions, as small- and medium-sized businesses continue to spend on the company's services.
