Thread regarding Pratt and Whitney layoffs

What's the point?

Layoffs are typically intended to cut costs, but how does that make sense when the company announced hiring 325 people in Asheville just a day before the layoffs? Not only that, I’ve noticed there are still plenty of open positions across the company. Why didn’t they implement a hiring freeze instead of letting go of hardworking employees?

They got rid of the more experienced people who make more money, and are replacing them with newer/lower level who make less. They don’t care about experience. Which is scary for the future engines.

They messed up big time by making Asheville, that place has been nothing but a money pit from day one, severely over budget and under paid workers. They can’t get/keep anyone worth a damn after what they poached from other sites and since they spent/spending so much they have to justify its existence by any means necessary. Until that place turns a profit nobody is safe.

Moving Union position (or high-cost salaried positions) in High-Tax States (aka Connecticut) to Non-Union Low-Cost, business-friendly States (aka North Carolina, Georgia, etc.)

Cost savings galore! Such a beautiful strategy!
