Thread regarding Pratt and Whitney layoffs

Layoffs began this am.

In effort to save 40million dollars Pratt has opted to target and layoff many of its most senior employees (40+ years). With engine issues on the rise, the result of defective details from suppliers, the company decided that its employees would bear the brunt instead of the supplier base. A very sad day indeed.

I was laid off after 39 years of service . Actually ok with it because I’m close to retirement. I did get severance and 1 year health . I just feel badly for the one person left in my group who is now doing all the work by herself .

Got laid off on my 64th birthday after 36 years. I was a n exceptional.performer; but that didn't matter. Four things against me.

  1. Female
  2. Minority
  3. My age
  4. My salary, which I worked hard for it for 36 yrs!

Yep, it is true, over 10 years of faithful service ment nothing, and it was done over the phone.

I was hit early Wednesday morning. I was with the company for 14 months and never received a performance review. I was told my separation was not performance related and that I am eligible for rehire. I received the severance package, which at least covers my insurance for a year. I’m still processing the termination and have taken it mostly in stride. This is not my first rodeo - I’m over 60 and was a P3 working remote. I know I was more than meeting my requirements, but one thing I’m not is a kiss-a$$ and it seems that is what the team wanted. They don’t want to hear honest and genuine feedback and I’m not one to compromise my ethics or professional reputation just to please someone in upper management. So yes, this feels targeted and personal. I think in situations like this the company uses the broad layoff umbrella to weed out people that for whatever reason are not truly valued by their leadership, but there is no reason or justification to terminate them with cause, so this is how they do it without risk of litigation. That’s my opinion anyway. But, when one door closes, another one opens. Time to turn the page. I’m still blessed and grateful to be where I am in life!

Glad I got out of there 10 years ago.
The culture now is nothing like it used to be.

There will be no joy celebrating p&w's 100th birthday this year.

We've been under cost curtailment since last year- even the shuttle isn't running and events don't have food provided. We were told no layoffs then yesterday two people on my team were let go. I cant figure out why. He was young. did I thought a good job, but has only been at Pratt two years. Still 10 years experience. Crazy thing is we were just approved to hire 7 more people. I've heard layoffs were performance-based, but also that in my group the directors and managers had no say. Anyone know if it was based on performance?

To be fair to the people who said it wasn't happening, it seems to have been done very quietly. I only learned about it an hour ago, and I'm in the office full-time.

3 people in my 7 person group were let go. 1 PE and 2 principals. All slackers, and surprised it took this long. Just because you've been with a company more than 20 years doesn't mean you don't have to work anymore.

Pratt and Whitney is worst company to work for! Many senior leaders are racist and only employees white Americans. I will start a complaint today. Don Wolff is a bastered and a--holes. Never work for Chris Johnson and PFS.

They just hired 10+ hourly mechanics & a handful of inspectors last week, but layoff the salary teams that oversee/assist them? Horrible associate director bean counter decision making

Middletown CT here, only been their for 5 years. But they let go a few P.E.s and principal designers that have 20+ years is really sad. Don’t think removing DEI will help with this situation either

I was let go out of east hartford today. Been with the company for 6 years. Upper management is not leading this company in a good direction. Layers upon layers of upper management. Not going to have anyone to do the work

Just found out 2 of my direct colleagues are gone. One was a close friend and both had 20+ years of service. But yet the company just boasted a $2 billion profit for 2024.

I got let go too, but it's not just long tenure employees. I was only there for 6 years. It's surprising they didn't offer voluntary severance before lay offs
