Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

How are notifications going out?

What should I be on the lookout for? Could you please help a newbie out? I’m really stressed about this.

Number one thing is the random 1x1 with your manager. Once you join the call within seconds your bombarded by an HR rep it's really traumatic if your not expecting it.

And if you are RIFed, depending on what state you are in and other circumstances, you may not get severance- instead you get "supplemental unemployment" - which means that instead of getting a lump sum of money for the weeks of severance you qualify for, you have to apply for unemployment with your state, and meet all the requirements for unemployment, which may include reporting your job hunting efforts to the state. Diring the period of time for which you would qualify for severance, Anthem will pay you the difference between the amount you get in unemployment and your salary. But if yiu find a job and start it before that period is up, Anthem will only pay you half of the amount of your remaining salary for the remaining weeks - which they call a bonus- unless the job you get is with elevance, in which case they'll stop paying it completely. So if you would qualify for 3 months severance, but manage to get a new position at Elevance that starts 6 weeks later, than you only collect 6 weeks of unemployment+discounted weekly salary. But at least when you go back to Elevance in those circumstances you'll still have most of your earned benefits - you will have only lost some PTO time. They say that you will also lose your sick/STD bank but my past accrued hours are still showing up on my paycheck; I was laid off in early September 2024 and started in a new position at Elevance at the end of December.

My 1:1 was moved from a Monday to a Friday a week before, I was Rif'd on a Friday so Gail could have her town hall in peace. The meeting invite was only me and the manager but after I joined, within 30 seconds an HR person appeared on camera and I was being Rif'd. About the only thing you need to ask is when you can take your remaining PTO... and you need to use up every hour before your 30 days are up otherwise its gone (unless you live in a few states that make them pay you). The whole Rif operation has a meeting that you'll sign up for that goes over everything that you're entitled to. My last day was in November and I'm still looking for a job, its a lot harder than I thought it would be and i'm starting to get worried. Good Luck.

Any job can let you go at anytime. Always stay prepared the best you can, and put it on the back burner until it actually happens. It may never happen and you're stressing yourself out unnecessarily.

if the whole team is not getting let go, just specific team members, your manager will either set up a 1:1 or utilize the regular 1:1 (if it falls on a layoff day). Once you join, they will have someone HR join as well. Your boss will read a script and then turn it over to the HR rep to talk about your separation package. They usually will let you stay on another 30 days unless you are deemed someone where it would make more sense to do “pay in lieu of notice”. If that is the case, yoir access is taken away right away, you get paid for 30 day and then your severance starts.
