No Flexibility For Appointments

I found out last week that my manager gave 2 coworkers verbal permission to wfh whenever they need to. Fantastic for them except I got told today to log a half day worth of PTO because I had a dentist appointmwnt this morning and arrived 1 hour later than I normally come in. How does 1 hour = half day PTO? Supervisors already doing a bang up job applying the new policy fairly.

If you need to take PTO in 4 hour chunks make damn sure to not actually go in to work nor do a single thing on your phone e for work during that block. If you wanna play the game fine. Let’s play. Needs to work both ways.

Don't complain. Eighty percent of the people you complain to don't care and 20 percent are glad you have problems. Life is not fair, it never was and it is now and it won't ever be. Do not fall into the trap. The entitlement trap, of feeling like you're a victim. You are not.

Do not report this to HR. Call the ethics hotline and complain that a supervisor is enforcing PTO guidelines for one coworker while purposely allowing others to not follow the RTO policy. Make sure and report as if you are a concerned team member and not any of the parties. Bonus if you provide dates and examples of the policy not being enforced.

If you want something to happen, speak to your HRBP.
If you just want to whine, talk about it here.

Even HR people who report ethical issues put themselves at risk of being shown the door.

Sounds like another whiny crying millennial hipo. Get some kleenex from the supply room.

Do NOT go to HR. I had a manager just like you’re describing. Cut slack to his favorites and kept the rest of us under lock and key. Miserable experience but thankfully he’s gone now. Going to HR will put you on the naughty list and bump your name into the “to go” column.

I wouldnt talk to HR. That's like filing a complaint with opposing counsel. HR represents one entity and that's the company. They will protect the manager and scapegoat you. My best advice is either find a new job within the company so you don't have to work for an unreasonable boss or polish up the resume and start looking outside the company. Seems harsh but COP is notorious for treating their employees like dogs.

Supervisor discretion. And your supervisor must not have been in the meetings where they were told it's ok to maintain flexibility within reason.

If you're salaried, PTO has to be taken in 4 hour blocks.

What do you want us to do about it? Report to HR.
There is no tolerance for wfh anymore, HR will shut that down.
If you took time off work, you need to use PTO. Pretty simple.
