Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

This is something everybody should remember at all times

Do remember that Human Resources today is not the old employee friendly HR of a decade or so ago. Today’s HR are the buffer and protectors of management, not the rank & file ordinary employee. High pay is given to the new HR senior staff to safeguard the company from being accused of less than above board labor tactics, protecting management from accusations of discrimination, and participating in railroading so-called problem employees. Aka, being the henchmen for management.

Well, maybe there was a "... old employee friendly HR of a decade or so ago...", what I remember is that HR is, was, and always will be nothing but paper-pushers whose answer to your questions will always be, "Let me get back to you". What is true about today's HR is that it's a diversity petri dish for the company, little more than that.

Those of you who don’t believe @3ydb can fend for yourself when the company turns on you. Watch your step and ask no quarter, because you will get none.

Managers (not HR) control HR and as such are allowed to not follow Chevron policies unless it beneifts them in some way. HR protects these same managers by covering up the cr-p.

About 12 years ago, I secretly started a clandestine resource within the company called Employee Resources. It’s made up of other like-minded middle and senior level employees across several Business Units who have been here long enough to know every company policy, rule, and loophole. We personally reach out to help select employees with real problems, so long as we believe they have a difficult problem and who won’t rat us out. We have people embedded in HR, so if your case has merit, we may seek you out.

As one of the previous comments stated, “ the Ombudsman is not there to protect you”. The real purpose of the Ombudsman is to sleuth out the “problem employee” who will eventually stir up enough mess for the company. The Ombudsman is there to catch the potential whistleblower or problem employee in the early stages of bringing up a legal case. Call it cheap insurance for HR and the company. Don’t ever contact the Ombudsman, unless you want to tip off management.

HR has never been on the employee's side. You have a bunch of incompetent high school grads who are there to not answer your questions, instead just pointing you to some web page, and HR higher-ups who are there to protect the company from any employment-related lawsuits. There you have it, HR explained in one sentence. Oh, and also throw in the ombudsman, who also works to protect Chevron, not you.

Well if HR did not do those things they would be incompetent. Management and the company needs to set up safeguards to protect themselves from toxic employees that claim they have been wronged for whatever reason and want compensation. Of course, HR does more that just the items you listed that actually help the average employee. However, at the end of the day they don't call "HR" the Human Roadblock Department for nothing.

This sounds like someone who is poor performer and just wants to work from

Who do you think decided we needed an HR dept, formed one, staffed and set up requirements - management or employees?

I guess you didn’t think replying this same thing to the other HR thread was enough so you had to start another thread?
