Thread regarding Suncor Energy Inc. layoffs

Rate The Integrated Oil Companies

Over my career, I have worked for:

Chevron
Shell
Husky
Suncor

Rate these four companies on both competency and arrogance?

Okay I’ll throw my take on it, I’ve only ever worked at Syncrude and Suncor Firebag sites though but do have knowledge about many different oil companies.

Chevron (American)
Shell (Netherlands)
Husky (is now part of Cenovus)
Suncor (my opinion the worst one)

I would probably put them in the order you actually just mentioned. Chevron is of the big 2 American integrated company (Exxon-Mobil) being the other. I’d probably go with Chevron of the big 2 because I do recall they treat their employees better. Then I’d go Shell because they are the oil company that actually somewhat cares about the environment. I would have put Cenovus in last place but then the Suncor after Freddy came along makes it better than Suncor now. If Freddy didn’t come along to rip the place up, Suncor would have been higher up on the list. And Syncrude was once a joint venture but was always the better place to work for than Suncor; but now Syncrude is basically run just like Suncor hardly worth living in Fort McMurray to work at.

For the big 4 Canadian Oils:

  1. I’d say CNRL is now the best. (Doesn’t lay anyone off but has always been pretty lean with workers and hiring).
  2. Then I’d say Imperial oil. (Freddy was CEO here too though)
  3. Cenovus.
  4. Suncor is worst. One of the keys why it is worst is because of Freddy and what he did to the place. And how he damaged and destroyed the working culture while instilling fear in it’s workforce. He created a toxic workplace.
