While some say that the only reason they haven't left yet is easy pay, I'm overworked and almost totally burned out. What's this all about? Either the distribution of work is not right, or maybe it's just me and I need to stop putting in real work and start pretending to work instead?

lesson: you are a slug, work all you can, preferably at 1.5-2x. when it’s slow take a break. You don’t lead you do what you are told. pretty simple. ps, stay in your lane
It’s poor management at the upper level. All VPs want to keep their headcount. So when there’s no work you have extra employees. Too much work. Well you can’t get more employees because it breaks the budget. Instead of moving headcount around it’s becomes a game and the only real winners are the VPs and above who hold to their budget.
But you have time to post on this site to complain?
It all depends on what your role is. Some parts of the company are overworked and some are not. Personally I, and I recommend this for everyone, is just enough to be a good employee and not an ounce more.
