Worker Retraining

Seeing a lot of long-term folks being let go. Are there any protections for workers that require an employer to pay for training a laid off worker in a new field? Canada seems to have something like this, but not sure if USA does.

Depends on the state. States like Indiana you can go through agencies like WorkOne and apply for grants to retrain into a needed industry. It's not going to be easy and might be completely outside of any field you e thought of before.

In America, worker protections is exactly why unions were formed. Too bad they changed their focus to greed like everything else. Now nobody believes the unions will protect them so they definitely don’t want to shell out a couple grand in dues every year just to be let go anyways.

I've seen a lot of posts on here over the years telling people to update your resumes and learn some new skills. I guess many didn't heed that advice. You've sat in your desks for years watching many people be let go. Why would a person think their numbers won't be called at this place? Corporations don't care about their employees worth or tenure. They care about their money and nothing else. Do your self a favor and learn a new skill and find your worth.

This is America. Of course there aren't worker protections.
