Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Manila IT taking our jobs and working 2 Days in office!

Who decides 3 days WFO in US and 2 days in Manila?

I have worked with Manila IT … they are not to be found on their WFH days. I have no idea what they do, mostly out on holidays or planning for some celebration. Some time ago there was a half decent guy, and he left for another company. The talent pool in Manila is so small yet we make these poor choices. AG and her puppet leader in country AM continue to distort data and make false promises.

IT is also a mess because we have to cater to a dozen different business partners who all refuse to change their ways to align on standard tools. So instead of supporting one M&I tool for example we have to maintain and support 7 which requires more people because no one person can support all 7 different systems and means higher license costs because we have to buy from multiple vendors.

But try and tell MCBU, ABU, SJV, SASBU and the rest that they have to change to a single system and watch them all scream about how it’s not possible and then in the next breath complain about how expensive IT is

Chevron IT is a mess because of leadership with no strategy. Decisions are made in silos, and at the upper levels are purely driven by budget rather than any actual strategic plan. The only thing BB/LC and their leadership teams do is announce budget cuts and pretend like that’s a leadership strategy.

I thought WFH was great and everyone does twice the work, no commute, etc. Oh, wait. my bad, that was just a lazy cuck pushing it so he can slack, surprise surprise.

For groups with a presence already in Manila or Argentina the plan is to increase headcount there when possible instead of expanding into India.

They just went through a massive hiring effort at the end of the year and continuing right now. People have been onboarded to MSSC IT and are just “training” because they can’t be assigned to any platform work yet without the leadership showing their hand on which jobs are moving there.

The Manila bench is being built right now so that when the org charts are revealed, they can start to take on US IT jobs.

LC replacing BB wouldn't do this! Major shakedown is needed in IT leaders .. the IT environment is so toxic.. so many of the really good IT emloyees voluntarily left ..

I trained a couple people in Manilla ( found they don't have basic skills to get trained)..and the next thing they left for a higher paying job . Everyone works in silo and keeps buggjng us for everything! Leadership in Manila is wagging their tails and hosting boondoggles of their masters. AG and RS should just buy a plane with company money - lot cheaper!! This is setting our company for failure.

If you want a more engaged US IT Workforce don't destroy its morale. We take the brunt of cuts and the BU's treat us like garbage. A great way to motivate us.

AM is a terrible leader for the Manila IT office and was from day 1. OP is correct that she’s only there because she’s a puppet of AG, just like the prior Manila IT site lead and same for the high priced useless IT expat that was sent to Singapore during transformation in 2020. AG surrounds herself with sycophants and gets them into positions to maintain her influence and protect her empire. Many of the IT function issues and inefficiencies can be traced to her or to one of her lackeys working on her behalf.

The IT organization is broken, plain and simple. Leadership? Nonexistent. Management? A joke. DMs? Pathetic. Performance? Abysmal. And frankly, where the staff are based doesn’t matter one bit. This is a global issue for IT that needs to be addressed now. There are people in Houston who are allowed to show up once a month, like that’s acceptable. Favored people can disappear for six weeks or more, leaving a gaping hole. We’ve got a middle management team of sycophants who are more interested in cultivating loyalists and saving their own skins rather than holding people accountable.

And then there’s this nonsensical post from OP complaining that US IT staff aren’t allowed to slack off like the ones in the Philippines. This is a business, not a playground. There’s a fundamental lack of discipline here, and it’s crippling us.

When is LC going to wake up and take action? When is someone going to clean house, set the damn expectations, and create a high-performance culture? This is not how we win. IT needs to be staffed with a team of disciplined, accountable individuals who show up, are engaged, and get things done. IT leadership should be held to the highest standards.

Yeah, they are remote jobs, so well they are done remotely by cheaper labor.

The underlying message is very clear in the OP's post: when people WFH, they not only are hard or impossible to get in touch with, but are mostly not working at all. Therefore he/she expresses resentment about those allowed to do that, namely more than others. Don't pretend like this is confined to Manila or other similar locations. Just stop already.
