RTO affecting bonuses

Just learned from my manager that RTO will be negatively affecting our bonus if it is below a 2.5 day average. Curious if other teams have heard this.

@313+1jhv563an Problem is they are moving people to other offices as they consolidate office space, without regard for added commute time or where people live. Also, I’m sure you’ve seen things have changed, teams are geographically dispersed, outsourced teams overseas. It makes no sense to commute to an office if you are the only one left on a team and are on calls virtually all day. Not all roles should be required to be onsite just to fulfill a blanket requirement.

Nobody told you to take a job with a company's office that is 43 miles away from your house. That's your issue. When you take a job you have to expect that they will want you at the office at some regular schedule. At least that's the way it was before COVID.

FYI, the correct RTO thread is @OP+1jj6zb6ad.

I was not provided an cube space and was required to work from home for 5 years. Then when the RTO policy was set, they gave me a cube and told me to report 3 days a week. It is 43 miles for me to get to the office and it takes over an hour so 2.5 hours of my day in a vehicle. If I work from home, I start at 8am, work through lunch and stop work at 5:00 (sometimes later, based on meetings). Others I work with show up at the office around 9:30, take advantage of the free lunches and are gone by 4:30. Which bottom line slackers are we talking about?

yes, this absolutely happened. good performers where cut to 80% or 75% bonus based on RTO alone. great performers where given an exception.

Op here..... sorry I didn't specify. I was referring to hybrid employees only. I wouldn't think remote employees would have impacted bonuses for RTO numbers.

Bit not fair, since some team members are 100% remote.

As one who was required (as I was a manager) to RTO in late 2021 by my "leadership" I have no sympathy for all you who continued to work from home. And I still got laid off anyway.

I'd suggest you find another employer.

I’m chuffed to see RTO back at T-Mobile! It ought to go back to five days a week, just like before the pandemic. If firms like Amazon, Meta and government are doing it, what makes T-Mobile so special?

On top of that, T-Mobile should take a leaf out of the government, Apple, and Meta’s book by ditching all the DEI rubbish. Some folks at T-Mobile, like Marcus and his old mates, have taken the Mickey with the hiring and promotion process u set the guise of DEI.

We’re well glad he’s not here anymore, and our teams are smashing it.

How's the vibe at the Bellevue/Factoria campus? Do people find the 3-day RTO productive? Is the commute traffic acceptable within a 5-mile radius?

If everyone would just get back to the office, this madness will end!

Is this a surprise? We have been told RTO minimums for years at this point.

The pandemic may be over, but the way they overworked some teams during that time to shift the focus to digital, is stronger than ever. Working 10-12 hours a day remote isn't ideal, but demanding the same and requiring the commute in is insane.

Join all the federal workers now required to go to the office. Bwahahaha.

@tf+1jhv563an The RTO requirements are documented clearly in the employee handbook, they updated it a while ago with the requirements. Wouldn’t be surprised to see full 5 days onsite as other companies are doing in area. Also people who aren’t complying it’s an easy way for separations without having to pay out for the company, would probably keep that in mind if you think it’s just impacting bonus. Especially as company looks to reduce headcount further.

My bet is change to RTO will be announced at earnings 1/29. I’m sure Wall Street analysts will ask as other big companies are doing it. Mikey already has an answer prepared and that how we is know

Until this “rule” is enforced across the board company wide, and documented appropriately , I don’t see how it can impact anyone financially. Seems borderline illegal in fact.

Confirmed. Was told that badge swipes will be calculated and anything less than 3-days minimum in the office will negatively impact my bonus.

Some employees are being reclassified as remote, like field ops managers, and a majority of former Sprint folks are classified remote. Something isn't making sense here ...

If you are not consistently in the office, you are not working consistently.

Time for the company to address the unfairness.

IT had been preaching RTO minimum days in the office since September with good reason. In some offices its a ghost town and those facilities are not inexpensive.

Well, except when you have Directors, VP's and HR telling you that because you're salaried, you're basically on the clock 24x7. Don't answer the phone once and see what happens.

That's an interesting stance, and may be worth it. I'll have to do some math, but giving up my bonus could be cheaper than commuting + my time on the road + not having to have face to face interactions that are meaningless.

Ok I will trade not having to drive through crazy traffic congestion, save by not having to pay for gas, car maintenance, etc which coupled with the priceless peace of mind are so much better than having to su-k up to get a “bonus” which only increases my tax liabilities at the end of year. My bonus is that I get to stay working from home and not forced to be around a bunch of vaxxed id--ts mingled in the few who actually knew that the vax was bs but didn’t have the courage to say No

If they want you to go into the office you should be doing zero work outside of the office.
No emails. No calls. Nothing. It's only fair.

I've had a feeling this was coming and I'm totally not surprised, but it's BS. The majority of my team is east coast and my phone starts blowing up at 6 or 7am west coast time. I get on early to address issues, that really aren't my issues, but in the end it's usually noon before I have a chance to eat breakfast, shower, then commute in.

if they mess with your money, then what you gonna do? Do you have power (and agency) to think for yourself or do you just go with the flow?

Yes! If you don’t follow the rules you don’t get to share in the profits and success of the people who do the work. Bottom line slackers.
