Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Learn to accept realties of life

To all those who feel burnt out, overloaded, underpaid, feel that management is bad, culture is horrible etc., do some research. You are correct. But just look at UHC, Athena, Humana etc. boards. You will see the same phrases. Check out other tech companies, you will see same phrases.

This is life. Go figure out how to navigate these challenges and be successful. No point venting over your frustration. Invest in yourself and be the change you want to bring in.

I don’t think companies are moving oversees because we are too chill. Companies are just wanting to get their stock prices up and plead our shareholders. The whole model of business is broken. Oversees workers are cheap it’s simply that reason. Have you ever been on the phone with these offshored call centers. It a freaking nightmare trying to communicate and oftentimes you get the wrong answer. It will cost the company in the long run but leaders are too stupid to see that. I don’t know what the answer is but it seems like we need to get a handle on corporate greed. No company should expect double digit growth every year.

I am learning to deal with this new reality. I am accepting that work satisfaction is a thing of the past. Maybe this new reality will have us setting boundaries and working on work/life balance. I don’t think the answer for everyone is doing a startup or starting their own business. There are so many uncertainties with that ad well. Plus owning your own business is a 24/7 thing that many of us don’t want. I’m 15 years away from retirement. Just trying to make a decent wage till then. I accepted it probably won’t be with this company.

Ratioed? Please spell check before posting. And, yes, sometimes you leave a job you hated and fall into one you really enjoy. Been there, done that.

Many people on this board have stated leaving was the best decision and they are happy at their new position. Nothing you are saying is helpful because it’s not true, that’s why you are getting ratioed.

hello everyone, I am the original poster of this message. I am no manager or executive, just an average individual contributor barely managing to keep my family running and living paycheck to paycheck. 100% agree that we have a horrible culture here. But most of you are saying leave this company and go somewhere else. Where to go? Do you have a list of companies with great culture and hiring??

I am saying every other company that I researched is equally bad. So, what's the option? Maybe this is what every company is, and we either accept the truth and learn to adapt accordingly. Or people who have the ability to create their own startup and establish the right culture. That's all.

I don't think I deserve a personal attack and profane words, please.

It's not us accepting the reality, it's the labor supply for the oligarchy. When the labor market is tight, we expanded health insurance during World War II. Then a loose labor market today, we get "companies are choosing foreign-born workers over American ones because our culture is too chill, too mediocre."

I have a multimillion dollar savings idea, but it requires leadership to change the story they are telling slightly. Instead of changing the story the vendor changed the price to back up their story. There is no winning.

OP sounds like a delusional manager. “…be the change you want to bring in”? This isn’t a Nike commercial. You know what’s crazy about this place that I’ve never experienced anywhere else? Is the sheer number of people who feel the same as we do here on the board that I meet on a daily basis. This company is not only cheap with pay but on everything else. A few weeks ago I spoke with someone after a meeting that I always thought towed the company line and is well respected by senior management and she shared with me that she thought they were full of bull, always steering her towards what senior management wanted, which was far different from the effective solution. The truth is leadership at this company is the problem and the industry supports and tows the same profit model. No amount of common sense strategies and solutions will be accepted by them because real change and efficiencies take time and money. I have a 50k solution that will save about $1 mil that will forever sit on my desk because they stopped listening at $50k short term. Oh well, i’m to the point I don’t care anymore. Investing my time in looking for external opportunities.

I used to have this point of view: work hard! Be creative! Be a team player! I did everything right. And you know what? I got RIF'd anyhow. And i said "No problem I'll find another job!" And i networked and i filled out applications and got input on sharpening my resume and guess what? Nothing. CRICKETS. Multiple times I made it to third round interviews only to be ghosted. I did get another job ....for which I am thankful. However it took 10 months. OP you can have your opinion, but i think people (including myself) have reason to do a little venting.

I disagree, venting is away for people to cope. Your post is actually you venting so tell others there's no point in venting is crazy.
